James Knight has moved to Reading Town. A good acquisition for the Hellenic side: a reliable and straightforward player. Unfortunate not to get more regular runs in the 1st XI at OCFC. Best of luck in a (more) local side.
As someone who had seen the late Arthur Howlett play back in the late 50s/early 60s, I should like to give him a mention on this page. The obituary on the Home Page of the club website shows how remarkable he was as a bustling centre forward and goal poacher of the old school (a little like Bobby Smith, the Spurs player who has also recently passed away). I still have the programme of an Amateur Cup game against NAC Athletic of Banbury in 1958, in which he scored one of his many hat tricks, as well as several from the 1963/64 season, his last in the Hoops. He and John Woodley together notched up 65 or more goals that season. What is more important is that Arthur was one of the foundation stones of the Percy James side which developed into the team which appeared in the FA Cup 1st Round Proper on five consecutive years from 1966. RIP, Arthur.
I was just watching Late Kick Off on BBC and during a piece on AFC Wimbledon they mentioned their goalkeeping coach Paul Priddy. I remember him as one of the best signings during the Bobby Moore era, think we got him from Brentford-great keeper.
Lee Steele has already Leaved Nantwich and has stated intent to go into management having applied to the management opening at Northwich Victoria....the club are in the mire and apparently might not even have a stadium soon.
