Superb result today that has put us 10 points clear of the drop zone (Albeit with teams below having varying games in hand!). Thought they looked a quite decent outfit in the opening 20 minutes, however think we certainly deserved the three points.
Nombe now has five in his two and a half appearances and is looking some player! Two very well taken goals again today.
The defence certainly deserve enormous credit too, they never looked like giving Chelmsford any clear cut chances, as was proven by the long range efforts especially from Giles and Davies. Hardly surprising the latter's effort ended up well over the clubhouse!
Onto Wealdstone next who demolished Billericay in the Trophy this afternoon, a certain Bradley Bubb grabbing three on his debut!

Superb result, yes; superb match, no. Chelmsford looked a bit jaded after their midweek trip to Weston, and City have played more fluently and lost this season. Two evenly matched teams cancelled each other out for most of the ninety, but the difference now is that we are, thanks to Nombe, more clinical in our finishing, and today we added to that a strong defensive performance without the occasional lapses in concentration which have dogged us before. Jonah has been saying we needed to improve at both ends of the pitch, and his excellent loan signings this month have brought that about, though we must also credit Joe Oastler, who was faultless today, and seems to be enjoying his role leading and organising the young defenders around him.
Of course, the loanees are temporary, but the important thing right now is to keep the run going till we are really safe from the relegation threat. We are not quite there yet and we have some more tough fixtures to come --Trophy semi-finalists next week, and the team with the best away record in the league the week after. But we do like playing the better sides, and if we can look so comfortable against a top four team when we are without Sinclair and not dominating the midfield or using the wings much, one wonders what we could do with Robbie back and a bit more panache moving forward!

I don’t think any of the reports or interviews post match really give justice to how good this performance was. Chelmsford are one of the league favourites have a big strong squad with a budget to die for and we competely and utterly outplayed them from start to finish. This for me was up there with one of the best performances of the season.
Defensively we didn’t give them a sniff and Joe Oastler yet again was magnificent marshalling his back line. Midfield fought and harried and never gave an inch. I’m not Fleet’s biggest fan but he stood up to be counted today and with Poku never gave an inch. We have been calling for a partner for Pato and in Nombe we’ve found and exciting talent, both today we’re fantastic, Pato’s closing down and battling won the ball for Sam to finish easily and similarly for the second goal it was the battling and determination that sent Sam through for his fine second. What would have been the icing on the cake was a brilliant move and through ball from Pato to Fleet who was only denied by a fine point blank save by the Chelmsford keeper.
Staring to breathe a little easier now, but mustn’t let up now onto Wealdstone and fingers crossed another three points.

Great photos, thank you!
Going back to earlier comments, I agree with Shutler that the reports on each club's website are less than perfect. In places they are both a bit vague or inaccurate and don't credit some of our players, for instance Pato's role in the first goal, created by his pressing their defender, and Reece's role in the second, delivering a perfectly-weighted pass for Sam to run on to. When you watch the video replay, (and one of the photos by Hedges Senior) it's clear the defender has a head start on Sam when they go for that ball, but Nombe's pace gets him there first. Personally I was impressed by our performance and continuing form. Although we didn't create very many chances and Chelmsford had more possession, we controlled the game overall and getting a double over a club like that is a real achievement. I think to say we utterly outplayed them is maybe a bit biased, but Rod Stringer obviously thought his team were off the pace, and I love Shutler's passion!
Colin is entitled to be a little biased himself as a father, but I agree with him that Reece is the best passer of a ball we have, and I have said as much on here before. Jonah has gathered the strongest set of midfield players we have probably ever had here, and they all do everything, but they have different strengths. Godfrey has amazing energy and 100% commitment in every game. He's a great harrier and ball winner, is very versatile, and can be found defending one minute and attacking the box the next. Zacc is the best running at opponents with the ball at his feet, which is exciting to watch, and is usually prepared to try a shot when in range. Mo is a quieter presence but he's good for us defensively, a great screen in front of a back four, the best in the air and he rarely misplaces a pass or gets caught out of position. Rob has wonderful touch and vision, is quick and elusive and very hard to dispossess. He is a very clever and creative player. He, Zacc, Godfrey and Reece have all shown they can get goals as well as create them. Then there are the wide men-- Christian who is such a strong and pacey runner, and David who is our best crosser. Jonah has a real problem choosing who should play when they are all available. Having that problem has prevented him from giving Pato a partner, but now he is playing twin strikers we are better for it, in my opinion.

I think to say we utterly outplayed them is maybe a bit biased, but Rod Stringer obviously thought his team were off the pace, and I love Shutler's passion! It still amazes me that pretty much every club in the league manage to get a report produced every week. A few things to consider on that front: - Every report is one person's view of a game. I mean that fairly literally: we get to see everything once from a single, often limited, angle and then do our best to make good enough notes from which to recall the event after the game. Getting a handle on who scores a goal is easy, but being able to mentally rewind 2 or 3 passes is tricky: I regularly found myself having to ask other people who got an assist because I was so focused on the finish that it completely fell from my mind. I'd love to say that we can rely on twitter to fill in the gaps, but half the time the guy doing the twitter updates is also the guy writing the report! - Its often done on the move. Whether its just the note-taking or the entire report, pretty much everything is done on a phone or a tablet the move. If its an away game someone was probably squeezed into a train seat with a laptop. - Most reports are written by fans. In fact, all the media at City is done by fans: website, social media, programme. Everything. They all do it out of love for the club, but as fans they also want to enjoy a game. I personally found it easier to report on defeats because the idea of enjoying the game was already out of the window! Most fans aren't trained journalists, so the quality of reports will naturally vary across clubs. The few clubs in our league who are able to employ media officers are very privileged, although I do personally think that a good media guy is an investment which can pay for itself in terms of bringing people through the turnstyles. I love writing and I loved doing match reports before I moved out of Oxford, but it's always a compromise between time and quality. For me, the average match report ran around 1200 words and took an hour or two. An essay for Uni, meanwhile, would be 3000 words and take at least 16 hours of solid writing and redrafting to perfect - probably nearer 24 hours. When I read my old reports back I am happy with around 30% of them - these are usually the ones where I had a bit of fun with the way I worded a few things and, as a result, didn't fall into the same old groove I fell into at other times. At the end of the day, I'm just glad that I was able to give people who were at the game a chance to re-live it and people who couldn't make it a chance to get a feel of events.

I do have admit the reason I missed out Pato’s involvement in the first goal in the Match Report on the website was because I was noting down Eddie Jones’ block on the line and therefore missed it! The excitement in the crowd then got me tuned back in when Sam was already charging through on goal! Was using Secondary information for this which is why it seemed vague. Looking at the highlights though, it really is superb work by Pato!
I agree though that I could have done the second more justice having read it back this morning!

I am grateful to Logistics and all report writers! I know it's difficult to do them. But if the report does not have to be produced quickly, maybe the writers could check the highlights video first? Although sometimes they leave out important action, such as Reece's close range effort being saved by the keeper's legs on Saturday, at least they get the build-up to the goals.
That said, reporters often notice things I have missed...

Some good photos there! Who were the group sitting in the stand - all wearing yellow tops? Presumed they were Chelmsford fans but some appear to be cheering an Oxford City goal in the photo! Speaking of crowd, saw the att was 451 - pretty high, though how many from Chelmsford?

I must admit that I've corrected a couple of real howlers after seeing the footage but, for the most part, highlights tend to supersede the report anyway. A report's lifespan is pretty from publication to the release of highlights.

I thought they would go into a club archive somewhere... I think Rijs makes a very important point there. It would be a shame if there was no long-term retention of the reports, otherwise, probably in common with most other clubs, they will 'disappear' after a while. The only really long-term retainer of match reports across the country, and this has always been the case, are the local newspapers, and the level of reporting in many of those has decreased dramatically (terminally?!) over the past twenty years. If you look back to even the 1970s and 1980s, the local press carried good reports on most matches in the area (still a full page of Hellenic League reports in the OT and OM on Mondays). And local papers are properly archived and will eventually (admittedly a very long process!) be digitised by the British Newspaper Archive. When I started to try to piece together OCFC's history about a dozen years ago I very soon found that the local press archives were going to be the only way to make any real progress, and I think that would have been true of whatever club I was trying to research. Everything was in the papers at the start of the 20th Century and this continued well into the 1970s. By the '80s I was beginning to find gaps. Now that the papers cover sports much less I suspect it would be very difficult indeed for someone in, say, fifty years time, to piece together what was happening at a club in the 2010s: so much goes unreported. Maybe, as an old codger, I am getting a bit out of step, but I do think 'history' is important, but so much in the digital age seems to have a very short lifespan and I guess the brief video highlights won't be any different in the long run. Thoughts anyone?

What I mean by reports having a lifespan is that they're very quickly replaced as the main, reasonably authoritative source of information about the game by the highlights. Reports do of course stay up online - I believe they will do so until the point at which we stop using Pitchero for the website but it might well be that they would be preserved through a move.
In that respect there is maybe some slight value in amending/improving them, but the RoI on doing that would be ludicrously small - the sort of thing which would be worthwhile and valuable as a labour of love, but not necessarily a good use of time from a club media perspective where the focus is very much on the next game.

Though the video highlights are a great innovation - one I always look out for - they is no commentary and so, say ten years from now, the lack of identification of the scorers and 'assists' will mean they will not be much help to anyone wanting to add to the 'history' of the club. So the written reports, which may or may not be seen as vital now, take on a greater importance. Shep's fantastic store of memories and memorabilia will, I hope, continue to be maintained and added to over the seasons.
Though I agree entirely that when time is short there needs to be some prioritisation, at this level of football, with no paid committee or helpers, all aspects of the what is done are surely 'labours of love' and 'RoI' (which, being an 'old codger', I had to look up) shouldn't necessarily be the prime consideration.
