To be honest, I felt pessimistic about our chances before the match today, knowing we never beat Gloucester at home and we usually perform less well against teams below us in the league. Last year began with a dismal performance and loss against them, but the difference this time was that City actually played well and were really unfortunate not to get a result. I couldn't see whether it was a deliberate handball but a refereeing decision like that virtually determines the result, and it means we shall be without our new boy Ryan Case next week as well.
In fact, Craig King almost saved Gloucester's first penalty this season, and City dominated possession for most of the match. You could not fault the players' effort: they kept trying to play football, but as we have seen before, it is hard to break down a massed defence when you play through the middle. Craig Fasanmade's pace caused them a few problems down the right in the second half, but the crosses never seemed to find a City player. You could not tell that we were a man short, so well did the players cover, and we did not tire. Udoka was superb, surging forward from the back with great confidence, and Reece Fleet was spraying fine passes all over the place, but the final ball and killer touch were just not there.
We shall bounce back, and knowing how we raise our game against better opposition, Torquay would be well advised to be on their guard next week.

Thank heavens No Dog stills this time. I understand Tigerroar Was somewhat incapacitated, hopefully he will be his usual Unbiased self when falling short of a balanced match report..
All the Best To Dave Angel... Sometimes you have someone who Puts that extra in.. And knowing him for sometime now he deserves a medal.

Seems Ryan Case was extremely hard done by on the penalty/red card decision , hits his thigh before bouncing onto his stomach!
Also not sure what the Gloucester manager meant by them in the second half, I thought first half they looked ok but the second half was constant City pressure, we just couldn’t put the damn thing in the net!

I can accept bad referees at this level... At the end of the day, if they were perfect, they wouldn't be refereeing at this level. Instead they'd be refereeing further up the pyramid.
That being said, the last few weeks seems to have seen a massive increase in poor, match changing decisions that have seemingly gone against us.
That penalty decision yesterday certainly looks extremely harsh, I agree with Padz above that it looks thigh onto chest/stomach. It makes it even worse that we then go on to lose 1-0 from the resulting penalty...
Then of course in recent weeks, we saw that clear penalty at Maidstone not given, which would have also resulted in a red card for the defender, and then a penalty awarded against us at Maidenhead for a challenge that was well outside the box. Thankfully justice was served on that occasion...but could have been costly once again.
Then St Albans as well... Tshimanga flagged offside on about 80 minutes when he was actually well onside, which would have been easier to take had he not stuck the ball in the net!
We could easily have had a penalty yesterday as well... Tshimanga's standing leg appeared to be taken away from him by a defender, arguably a much clearer decision than the red card.
I don't know whether it's just that we're not getting the rub of the green with decisions at the moment, or whether there is a wider problem with referees training, but surely we are due some good decisions soon!
Let's just be thankful that we picked up all those points in November/December!

As Ron Atkinson once said "All through my career I have never criticised a referee, and I'm not changing a habit of a lifetime because of that dickhead !"
