OCFC at home to Margate. Margate have reached this stage with wins against Horsham YMCA, Concord Rangers and Salisbury...so are in good cup form. As, of course, are City!

Some interesting stats, to while away the time until the 19th. Since 1945 City have appeared in the 4th Qualifying Round 20 times up to last season. 10 were wins (8 of them at home) and 10 were lost (only 1 at home: Eastbourne in 2008/09). There were eight consecutive appearances between 1964/65 and 1971/72 (the famous series of five replays against Alvechurch). I am not sure we have ever played Margate before (Chris, any info?) but if we win we will be in dreamland: Margate had a Dreamland (of which I have fond childhood memories) and unfortunately let it crumble away!

Forgot to mention a big coincidence. Both clubs have been on the end of a pasting by the legendary Ted McDougall when he played for Bournemouth, 6 goals out of 8-1 against City in a 1st Rd replay in 1970 and 9 out of 11-0 against Margate the following season. 9 is still I think an FA Cup record.

Yes, McDougall did score goals for fun at times...and I'm sure the 9 is a record. City have never faced Margate in the FAC, and, even though they are a long-established club having originally joined the Southern League in the '30s, City had never met them at all until October 2015. They last got beyond the qualifying rounds in 2002/3, losing to Cardiff City in Round 2.

But they have twice gone further than we ever have, all the way to the Third Round - the last time being beaten 6-0 by Spurs. It should be a close contest: they are in top form at the moment and I think they have won five of their last six matches, including knocking Concord Rangers out 3-1.

I don't care much for statistics; What we know is our pre season went well: But it looked like we just needed to turn up for our opening 3 points against Concord: Well they had other ideas, and Whats clear from recent games that performance is not acceptable at this club: Since then are last few games have been a vast improvement, how we didn't get all three points at Braintree, will remain a mystery that the ref may probably be able to answer, one day....

Do i recollect watching Danny Wise scoring nine at Shoreham in a Fa Cup round? with Richard Pierson scoring four. Not quite that many. Sept 2nd 2000: Shoreham 1-10 Oxford City. Scorers: Danny Wise(5); Richard Peirson(3); Phil Emsden; Tate Hulbert. Danny Wise's tally was (and I think still is) a record for goals scored after coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup tie. City beat Lymington & New Milton in the next round before losing to Farnborough after a replay.

Great to be through, but oh! that was painful. I guess it shows how lacking in confidence we are that, when 2-0 up and looking comfortable at home to a team from a league lower, we retreat into defending deep and offer no support to anyone up front. City were nervous in the second half, full of mistakes, and could only rely on some good defending and goalkeeping, together with erratic finishing and crossing from Margate, to get through by the skin of their teeth. I know the situation is very similar to that of 2017 going into the First Round, but that team had Pato, Sinclair and Pearce and could get goals - not to mention the driving force of Godfrey Poku in midfield. We were definitely better than our league position indicated at the time. The second half today was pretty dire to be honest, and suggests we do belong at the bottom of the NLS. That said, it hasn't usually been like that this season, and maybe a tie with a League team, with all pressure off, will bring out the best in us. Though I'd still prefer a bye to Round 2...

Always enjoy your reports rijs. They are usually fair and accurate. Saying that if we had gone 3-0 up when we hit the bar, it surely would have been game over.A tremendous achievement to reach the First Round proper again - well done City. A bye would do nicely.
Allez Les Hoops.

Agreed -- Jack Self's effort deserved a goal, and of course Craig could have wrapped it up for us near the end when he and Reece Fleet sprung their offside, but that was our only real chance in the second half, and in this situation I just feel we should have gone for the jugular, so to speak, and pressed to get the third, demoralising goal. After which more might have followed, as they did against North Leigh. We could easily have drawn this and faced a difficult trip to Thanet in midweek simply because we gave ground and space to them, and it's too risky to assume your defence will hold firm for 45 minutes under pressure.
But overall, you are right that it is a fine achievement to get through for the third year running. The sponsorship money is very useful and the prospects are enticing, so let's put that second half behind us and look ahead with anticipation!

I would like to add my thanks To Jonah... Everyone wanted the statistically best team to start... I have to say I am very critical at times without knowing what the latest injury situation is.
And I apologise for shouting for Zack to come on When his injury is causing concern :
Get over it: I rarely apologise :
My man of the match Was Craig King... Not only for outstanding saves. But unfortunately having some personal abuse about himself: which In my opinion must be clamped down on.. And has no place in the game:

And has no place in the game: I always enjoy it when Ambassador King's Saturday Afternoon Outreach Program strikes a chord with another group of visiting fans, especially after they gave him s**t for having the audacity to need treatment in then first half. Stay classy, Margate.
