Just a small Note that the Lions have a Home game this Sunday at 4pm in the FA Futsal Cup. The Lions play FC Salisbury United who play in the Southern Section of the league below and While the Lions got a by through the 1st round (for reasons im unclear on, rank perhaps?) FC Salisbury Had an impressive 4 - 2 Victory over Super League North team Birmingham Tigers, so certainly a potential banana skin fixture for the Lions. Perhaps more impressively that game was played at Salisbury sports center infront of over 200 spectators. The Winner of this game will go on to play Either Reading or our new nemesis Baku United awayin the 3rd round with the fixture to be played on Sunday 17th April. Speaking of Baku it seems noone knows whats going on with them or indeed that final game of the league season. West London who had a popstponment against Genesis, there rival team for 4th spot, as well as Baku, lost to Genesis 5 - 2 this weekend but the Baku game STILL has no date set so its all got abit of a farce and it seems the Lions, who have bigger ambitions this season have moved on. If we have one one win left in our locker against Baku, ill take finals day (and a European away day!) over the Futsal cup everytime!

The Lions won their FA Futsal Cup game yesterday 10 - 1 against FC Salisbury United Though the scoreline looked dominant City were not at their clinical best, to EG's clear annoyance. Salisbury at least were a team that came and had a go, creating several good chances (and scoring one) which might have made the final score that bit closer had they been more clinical....but a City win never looked in doubt. Included in the Salisbury team was Luke Ballinger former England National captain and Englands highest ever scorer with over 50 goals at international level and clearly Salisbury are a team that is on the up, but was ultimately out classed by the lions strength and depth....the ability for EG to switch the entire team without losing quality on the pitch is a clear asset we are utalising very well. Next up in the cup is Baku, who played there first game since rumors and statements of there untimely demise. Though they havent gone they have lost their Spanish players and much of their coaching staff and as a result They JUST...and only just scraped by Reading 4 - 3 in a close encounter, a team the Lions beat 9 - 1 just afew weeks ago. The game is earmarked to be played at the Copperbox in London next Sunday on the 17th, however EG suggests that due to the short notice that may not be possible, so City have offered them the chance to play at our place for Free....sly...very sly. We might have another Cup game at Home after all! Will of course update as news filters through!

After much farce and waiting and everything else Baku beat West London last night in there final Super League South game 9 - 3. Meaning the Lions are Runners - up in The Super League South division.
While its a good win for Baku, Oxford can look at the fact that Baku are scoring plenty of goals but also leaking goals in almost evry game and its the fact they are scorng more goals than there opponents each game, rather than being defensively solid which will give EG and the lads great heart and confidence going into this Weekends FA Cup game against them.
Speaking of which the fixture is due to to take place at the London Copperbox, Olympic Park on Sunday evening, KO 6:30.

Unbelievable Jeff!! The Lions have beaten Baku 10-2 at the Copperbox...Must admit im stunned by that result!
Whats more Helvecia lost in spectacular fashion to Genesis.
Helvecia was leading 4 - 0 with just 2mins left on the clock but suffered an English cricket style batting collapse and Genesis put 4 past them in those couple of minutes before going on to win the game 8-7 after Extra Time.
With Birmingham being beaten by Helvecia in the previous round it has to be said this could be City's year to completely clean up as all the top 4 big guns have been knocked out and though several Superleague North and South teams remain in the competition, there is noone that city have struggled against this year and the door is wide open for City to go all the way.
But we all know how cups are...strange things happen!

Yes, I noticed the score on Saturday evening! Unlike UoY, Sheffield Futsal DO play in their home city: at The Concord Sports Centre (S5 6AE). The second leg is (allegedly) there on May 8th (at midnight if FA Full-Time is to be believed!)

The second leg is (allegedly) there on May 8th (at midnight if FA Full-Time is to be believed!) Unfortunately its representative of the state of the game at the moment in England and it will be like that for awhile, despite its ever increasing popularity, the money just isn't available to bring the logistical side of the game to a reasonable level of consistency. While there are several dedicated futsal centers around the country they are all open doors, so teams based there still have to hire and arrange a slot with the sports hall/center....which of course means the game has to be played at whatever time (or even place!) the teams can get. I believe we are one of only a couple of teams in the country that have our 'own' place so can virtually guarantee the same kick off times week in week out. (Sundays at 4pm! ) Interestingly and probably beneficially to us, while the Lions were away playing Baku afew weeks ago, Genesis hosted Helvecia at Berinsfield as no where in London could be found.....quite shocking that really.

The lions played the second leg of the super league Play-offs today and beat Sheffield futsal club 6 - 3. Meaning a convincing 16 - 4 aggregate score and City now go to st Georges Park in June for the grand finals!
The finals will be an all south affair as all the southern teams came through there play-offs against their northern rivals. line up therefore is -
Helvecia, Baku, Genesis and City.
Gonna be a tough contest, but hopefully a good day out either way.
Ill post up more details regarding tickets, prices etc when I find them out nearer the time but since its close season would be cool to get afew up there to support the lads!

EG had a long chat with me after the Sutton game, and for once I listened. Saw the Spanish lads, said a few things in Spanish EG and they all laughed. Apparently my pronunciation is all over the place. Sad to hear Jose is going back home. He talked me into going to the finals which he was confidant of getting to so I will be watching this column and hoping I can get out of it somehow

Any truth in the rumour I have heard that the Berinsfield site is no longer available in a row over unpaid bills?

The futsal staff here know nothing about the possibility of losing Berinsfield.
Personally it wouldn't be a shocker to me because I've maintained all along Berinsfield is where TAGs main influence was.
I live in hope though.
Lions are 3 - 0 up against Baku at halftime....they haven't hit top gear but are playing well enough.
