So, all the counties teams at home (First time ever the three sides have all reached R1 in the same season.)
Oxford City v Northampton Town
Oxford United v Peterborough United
Banbury United v Canvey Island.
An interesting match for 'nptonexile'!!

Robs been wanting this draw for years; Now Covids stopped him and everyone from seeing it from the terraces, oh well stick a cardboard cutout of Rob (Nptonexile) in both kits in the Shed end 😂

ChrisB - what's the history between City and Northampton? We (NTFC) brought a full squad (including Bayo) to Marsh Lane for a friendly - when Gary Johnson was manager, around 2012 time if I remember! 2-2

2-2 would be just fine again, as long as we win on penalties!
It's a massive ask to beat a team three leagues above us; if we did, it would surely be City's biggest ever win, and a huge cup upset. That said, we have played so well against league opposition since being re-formed: Wycombe and Burton as well as the recent ones with Colchester, Tranmere and Notts County. Not once were we played off the park. One win, three draws, and four defeats, three of which were very close. They were all League 2, of course, and the Cobblers are League 1, but at the lower end (though above United!). And we are a bit stronger this season than when we beat Colchester and drew at Tranmere.

Don't worry about being played off the park! 😂 This season, the Cobblers have started strongly - usually being the better team in the first half, without actually achieving too much...then fade into obscurity and defeat in the 2nd half!

Have they got a plastic pitch to practice on... Things have changed since receiving a bingo ticket as receipt at the turnstiles, when the internet was two beakers and a piece of string 😉

Radio Oxford's coverage map well extends beyond Brackley. They are not for Oxfordshire but are for the area served by the Oxford transmitter. Radio Oxford's signal covers Brackley better than that of Radio Northampton. The areas are based on signal coverage and not location. I would rather hear Brackley Town news that the continual Oxford United non-news stories. Well Done For not Adding Brackley to that, who Radio Oxford have got firmly in Oxfordshire.

Yeah, but they never used to bother until ex Oxford United Billy Turley got involved at Brackley. And they often get priority in coverage, which is unfair if we are to progress and get the media coverage we deserve. They also get coverage on BBC Northampton something we don't enjoy.

Otherwise you'd have to go back to the early days of the 20th Century for a couple of friendlies (one home and one away): certainly never met competitively before. Given all the different clubs City have played over the years in the FAC, it's quite surprising that this season will have seen them play four (at least?!) 'new' clubs.

Be in the Lamb & Flag prior to the game, irrespective. Just that there would have a few more local based Cobblers too...had BT and Tier 2 not kicked in! 😉

Playing on the Monday means that we will probably know which team we may be playing (if successful!!!) in Round 2, as the draw is usually made after most of the games have been played. Whether that is an advantage is doubtful.

One disadvantage of the later date is that Northampton will have had plenty of time to recover from their previous midweek game and to prepare for this one. Had we got the Friday evening, they might have been a bit leggy and less ready. It also gives us the beginning of a fixture backlog (two more matches postponed) in a season where there are bound to be lots of covid-related postponements. I just hope the cup games are not affected, because they cannot easily be rearranged.

We haven't come to what happens if both teams test positive yet, but I would say both would have to withdraw, making their game a bye for the team drawing their ball in the next round. That's the times we are in, I'm afraid.

I think postponements in the FA Cup due to Covid-19 are automatically match awards. I guess the match between City and Northampton may go ahead as they are both 'elite' teams, but maybe not Banbury v Canvey as both are below Step 2. If that is the case it would seem terribly unfortunate (and arbitrary!) for the Putitans after all these years.
