Good luck to the Hoops as they travel to the 'Mighty Urchins' today in their quest for a place in the First Round of the FA Cup.

Often tricky to beat a ten-man side, so well done to the Hoops for overcoming the Urchins and making it to Round One again.
The draw will be live on BBC2 on Monday (17/10) at about 19.15 - City are #73.

Another game of two halves: in the first half we had not achieved the necessary fluency which leads to good goal chances, although we did improve towards the break. Our equaliser seemed to do the trick and the second half went more and more our way. The choir found its voice again and we rapidly took the initiative. Had the game gone on for a while longer I am sure we would have scored more. The team were really buzzing during the latter stages. Well done City: another chance to take a League scalp. Shame I am booked away that weekend so shall have to follow it on the iPhone!

An absolutely dire first-half to be honest. Think there were only two shots on target, which both happened to be goals.
The red card looked a very bad challenge from where we were, so not surprised to see the ref brandish the card. The instant equaliser was much needed though as could have been a tough second-half otherwise.
Alfie Potter changed the game after half-time and getting the ball down and passing them to death completely nullified their threat, and we could easily have had a couple more. Pick of the goals from Fleety’s long ranger though!
Let’s hope for a good draw on Monday night!

The dire first half may have been good from our point of view as Hornchurch have been fluent and scoring goals for fun in the last six weeks. An open game might have seen them do to us what they did to Concord and Braintree, so we had to nullify the threat before showing our quality. This result was a notable achievement against a team in fine form who had rested many of their first choices last Saturday and who had the home advantage. Even more notably, we have only lost one Qualifying Round match in the last six seasons. Well done, lads - you deserve your place in the First Round after battling through some tough situations. I just hope we don't get South Shields away...

Ha, funny you should mention South Shields. My wife and I are staying just a few miles away at Chester le Street, so I may have a slightly biased view there. I would love it if it was Lincoln City (home or away) like in 1902. To be fair given our form against League 1 clubs recently we should not go in fear and trembling against any of them (including our friends down the road!). Banbury might have been good for the attendance figure, but that one will have to wait for another year.

Incidentally the foul that caused the sending off was bad and I could hear the sound of the collision from 50 yards away! I thought that our player would need a stretcher. At the time I thought the red card was justified but possibly it should have been a yellow. As I’ m only an unqualified bystander I cannot overrule the referee! Yes, Alfie’s return helped the revival in the second half, and will certainly agree to Fleety taking the honours for his cracker. Let’s have some more of those.
