As much as its disappointing to have come away with nothing, that was one hell of a good game where - as much as a point would have been fair - you can't really begrudge them the win either. If you had to make a list of things a great game needs, it ticked pretty much everything off: 5 goals, both sides leading for a period, a missed penalty, and a late winner.
We've come up against plenty of teams this season already who were capable of creating a lot of chances against us but very few who could actually convert that into goals, which they did very well in the second half. When we got on top they responded well - the double change made a huge impact - and their patience is what got them back ahead. Obviously the shenanigans to delay the penalty were a bit out of line, but its reaching a point where I almost wish City would start playing those kind of games as well - the view from the moral high ground isn't actually all that good.
Our performances over the last few games have all been incredibly promising and losing here does nothing to change that: we've upset 'larger' sides in Torquay and Wealdstone; ground out a win against St Albans with half a squad; got a draw out of playing poorly against Weston and lost narrowly at Woking and here. Not bad for relegation battlers eh?

Not bad at all. Gutting to lose in the 90th minute, though.

Yeah they have spent well. Although their number 4 (good grief he got sent off against Ricky for holding twice, second on Deering, see above video). And despite being warned several times got a booking late on only. Good luck to Manager King with that chap. I can see many cards in the future.
They were expecting 5-0. I even heard double figures being mentioned. Oh my, silence after an early city goal, was broken by the meltdown on the Welling bench. Now I've heard some good French... But that was bad French being drilled out. The pressure was then immense helped by the ref not giving a blatant obstruction on a city player, after which they scored from constant pressure. We tried to soak up the pressure after their equalizer, and managed to last to half time.
Second half City were out early kicking downhill. But were kept waiting by the hair dryer treatment being dished out by King to his Welling players.
City came out firing on all cylinders and on two occasions it was ping pong in the penalty area, Zack absolutely tirelessly runing them all over the place, and Fleet also joining in. Kabby putting balls across the penalty area the final touch inches away on a couple of occasions from being tapped in the Welling net.
At this Stage i must say 'Hand ball' number 4 again, but their fans Seeing the funny side of the refs iniquities. Then decided to call hand ball after everything that happened, until they went ahead after creating, against the run of play, and making key subs....
It was then, end to end stuff and yes pretty sure it was the number 4 again miles in the area for blatant penalty. But not contesting the foul and what could easily have been a red card. Oh no, five of the Welling players bundled the ref towards the lineman who said penalty twice, and in the area. But the Ref only gave a Yellow when a Red has been given against us in the past for pushing the ref After a penalty decision, Dartford away comes to mind.
Then we had the keeper refusing to go on his line and again warned to do so or he would be booked.... Oh come on ref yellow card....
As a result of this Pato who had now been waiting on the spot for five minutes hit the bar and it went wide. Moments later he made amends as he tucked away the equalizer in the bottom corner. City seemed to be controlling things now, but were always going to be vulnerable on the counter and a sucker punch came when seeking to win the game, where after a city attack broke down the keeper launched the ball into the area and it fell onto the boot of a Welling forward, who burried it past King in the City Goal in the dying minutes, when a draw was the least we deserved.

To be fair I was disappointed we conceded the goals we did, especially the third one. That said, we at times played Welling off the park as we did against Woking - we are competing with teams that are expected to do really well, so that gives me huge confidence that we will not struggle in the league as much as we did last season (fingers crossed). As for the referee, he was quite awful after he did actually give the penalty - he should have booked a number of Welling players who were absolutely out of order with their harassment - and the Welling manager's language was simply shocking - the lino should have had him removed! Onwards we go, it is fun

Onwards we go, it is fun Talked about this after the game. We went looking for a winner when another option was to run the clock down. The ball was very accurate from their keeper to their forward and he planted it in the net. That wasn't happening earlier, Joe's was dealing with everything in the air. On the other hand, penalty goes in different story. One sub played. Running clock down late on involves a combination of keeping possession and introducing subs late on something we did to great affect against other teams, It's a fine balance. Woking were doing it against our nine players. Now that was Surprising.

No ok You didn't say that, but hardly went into a detailed description. Made some brief reference. I thought it was very important you didn't something about the moral ground. Decent refereeing would be better in my opinion.

Not sure what else was needed in the description of the penalty, it is an excellent account of the events that occurred.
As for the incident, the video highlights that were very kindly provided by Welling showed that the 14 did actually trip Udoka a good few yards outside the box, so in fact the refereeing was very much in our favour for that incident.

Just to add we don't have a fourth official from the world cup with the help of a video replay. Looked to me miles in as our defender ended up in the area but that's on first site. But that decision was made. As was pointed out to me last season the ref gave it so it's a penalty. The linesman was unmoved that's it.
That's Not what I'm getting at. The bundling by players is unacceptable and from experience certainty when we were in the North and at Dartford last season the only way to deal with it when your being pushed is with a red card. As we have learnt to our expense, or it turns into a circus.

The referee made two mistakes: giving the pen, and losing control of the situation afterwards. Although they kind of cancel out, they were both poor.
