The Vets begin their title defense this Wednesday with a home fixture against Wantage Town, kick-off 7.45PM.
Wayne Holden has given up his sheepskin this season, and handed over the reigns to last seasons top goalscorer Paul Kimber. Paul Creed will continue as Assistant to Kimber, whilst Holden takes a move upstairs to Director of Football to try and find some young talent???
9 new recruits have been added to the squad. Andy Martin from Abingdon Town. Fraser Gills, Simon Grossman & Stuart Clarke from Kidlington. Craig Dore & Robbie Wyatt from Ducklington. New youngsters to vets football coming into the squad are Rory Barrett, Jason Maciak & Andy Warmington.
On the negative side, last seasons player of the year, Carl Fisher, Anthony Hill & Barry Primmer have left to join newly formed Didcot Town. Manager Paul Kimber, Wayne Holden, Ronnie Williams and Dave Southam have all decided to hang up their boots for the time being, until needed, which will probably be in 2-3 weeks time???
Squad for Wednesday as follows: Simon Pagano, Robert Tutton, Julian Dark, Andy Cooper, Andy Martin, Craig Dore, Stuart Clarke, Fraser Gills, Justin Merritt, Justin Lee, Mark Orlando, Andy Warmington, Paul Spittle, Shaun Pearce, Jason Maciak, Rory Barrett.

The vets sprung back into action last night after after a successful pre-season (some had obviously been busier than others) and certainly looked the part in their new kit. Was good to see Tav, Caffa, last years clubman of the year Bas and linesman of the year Specky there although they all seemed to disappear quite quickly after kick off!!
With several debutants in the team City started quite brightly but despite lots of possession went one nil down to a breakaway goal. As with last year this sprung the boys into their stride and it wasn't long before Shaun Pearce had tapped in our equaliser. City dominated from this point onwards and added further goals from Pearce and Fraser Gills who had an impressive debut. On the stroke of half time Shaun Pearce completed his hat-trick with a well taken penalty to make it 4 - 1 at half time.
The new gaffa made five changes at half time and once the new boys settled down started passing the ball well again and enjoyed most of the possession. Rory 'Buster' Barrett lead the line well and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick on his debut, only the woodwork and the outstanding visiting keeper (their only reputation lads!!!) kept him out. The game ended 4 - 1 to City and an unbeaten start for the boys and the new management team... Come on the vets.
Man of the Match - Julian Dark, Attendance 14, Best Line of the Night - 'Chelsea are 2 - 0 up boys' Russ Holden

good performance , good to see some new faces , and still some old one's !!! like to thank KFC for the new kit (they will grow into it ) .. nice to see some of the new lads still have there teeth , and hair, .. must point out , i think it was a school boy error for timber to have played ,, Rory buster Barret , attacking the clubhouse end , hard for him to concentrate at the goal, when he had the other eye on the bugger van behind the goal ..
