City Vets continued their winning start to the season on Wednesday night with another convincing 4-1 win away to Milton United. With Manager Paul Kimber away on a scouting mission in Spain, last seasons Clough & Taylor duo of Holdy & Creedy were left to take charge.
Whereas the week before all the goals came in the first half, this week all the goals were in the 2nd half. Milton giving City a tough first half, and were very difficult to break down, so the score remained goalless at half-time.
HALF-TIME: Milton United 0 Oxford City 0
City finally made the breakthrough early in the second half, as Andy Cooper's excellent cross was met first time by Wayne Holden 10 yards out, who coolly lobbed the Milton keeper. The second came minutes later courtesy of another assist from Andy Cooper. This time his long throw eluding everyone except the alert Jason Maciak, who ghosted in at the far post, and fired in his first Vets goal. With City well in command, it gave City the opportunity to make a few changes, and both goal scorers were given a well earned rest. Substitute Stewart Parsons made an immediate impact, first of all picking up the ball in his own half, and running the whole length of the pitch before unleashing a ferocious drive, which the Milton keeper pulled off an excellent save. Then within a minute of this making it 3-0 with an excellent turn and lob over the onrushing keeper. With 10 minutes remaining City went 4-0 up with another excellent goal, this time with Andy Martin volleying home for his first goal in a City shirt. Milton got a consolation in the dying minutes with probably the best goal of the night, after City keeper Simon Pagano was caught picking cherries, as a 30 yard pile driver sailed past him into the top corner.
I shall leave Mr Creed to tell you all about Rob Tutton's little fall & Julian Dark's visit to the side of the pitch? Watch this space.
