With several players unavailable for young Kenny last night City Vets faced their toughest challenge of the season so far. On a blustery night and rock hard pitch it was always going to be a Battle against Old Hooky and it proved that way.
Old Hooky certainly started the brighter despite having ten men and deservedly took the lead through their lively no. 9, Speiros. City were forced into their first change after Dore tweaked something near his ankle and the lively Shaun Pearce replaced him. This sprung City into action and before long were back in to their sleek passing game.
After dominating for the latter part of the first half the pressure eventually forced a rash challenge in the box to earn City a penalty. Wayne Holden cooly slotted the ball home at the Burger Stand end and it was all level at half time.
City dominated possession in the second half although Hooky threatened on the break. Sid the Cat pulled off a sharp save midway through the half after a quick counter attack. City went close with several chances as the clock ticked by, but just when it looked like a stalemate was on the cards Super Stewy Parsons rifled home from 20 yards to put City in front!!
In the dying moments Man of the Match Shaun Pearce hit the post after a 70 yard burst from the back and that was the end of the action.
M of the M - Shaun Pearce. Attendance 13 (Speck, Bas, Tav where were you). Next week; Shrivenham Away.
Final note; As anyone seen Paul Holder's iPhone??
