City vets got back to winning ways last night, gaining revenge on their loss to Chinnor a fortnight ago, by winning 5-1, this time in the Quarter finals of the County Cup, with goals from Andy Martin (2), Lee Sharkey, Wayne Holden & Stewart Parsons. Gaffer Paul Kimber has asked me to do his match report this week, as he is now gone off for a well earned relaxing long weekend in Tenerife??? Match report will follow later.

The Vets got back to winning ways on Wednesday with a convincing 5-1 win at home to Chinnor in the Quarter-Finals of the County Cup. After their heavy 4-1 defeat to Chinnor in the league a fortnight ago, Manager Pete Kumber, was delighted to have a full squad to choose from, and had the difficult task for the first time of telling 3 players that they would not be included in the 16. Welcome to Management Kimber. The Gaffer's stern words in the dressing room obviously had the desired effect, as City took the lead within a minute of the kick-off. Justin "Bruce" Lee's pinpoint cross was met by the head of Andy "Doc" Martin, who made no mistake, much to the delight of the Jubilant Gaffer, who turned and jumped into the crowd, but unfortunate for loyal supporter Steve Tavinor, who got taken out, and has now had to go back to the JR for more operations on his Gammy leg. City continued to dominate, and it was no suprise after 15 minutes, when Yes you've guessed it, Lee Sharkey was booked for a rash challenge. City then went 2-0 up after 18 minutes thanks to that prolific marksman, Andy Martin. this time cooly slotting home from 10 yards after unselfish pull back from Paul Spittle. City couldn't add to their tally before half-time, but were delighted to come in at the break 2-0 up.
HALF-TIME: CITY 2 CHINNOR 0
2nd Half, and Chinnor came out of the traps much stronger and determined, and got back into the game in the 57th minute, thanks to a smart finish from their centre forward Johnstone. However City bounced back straight from the kick-off thanks to a wonder goal from Lee Sharkey. Recieving the ball down the right hand side, he weaved inside and out of his marker, and then curled a shot with the outside of his right foot (because he can't kick with his left) into the top corner past the despairing Chinnor keeper. This knocked the stuffing out of Chinnor, and basically killed the game off, and it was no suprise when they went 4-1 in front 4 minutes later, when the pace of Wayne Holden was too much for the Chinnor centre-half, who could do nothing but bring him down for a penalty when he was through on goal. Holden picked himself up, brushed himself down, and coolly sent the keeper the wrong way, and ran straight over to his old man for high fives in the stands, only to be told the news that his Mum had her handbag knicked whilst shopping in London. City finished off the game with 5 minutes remaining. Fraser Gills through ball put Stewart Parsons through, who calmly rounded the keeper, and slotted home to make the final score 5-1. I won't mention the earlier miss Stewy??? City will now be away to Goring United in the Semi-final.
FINAL-SCORE: City 5 Chinnor 1
GOALSCORERS: Martin (2), Sharkey, Holden & Parsons.
TEAM: Colin Fleet, Robert Tutton, Justin Lee, Julian Dark, Andy Cooper, Lee Sharkey, Andy Martin, Justin Merritt, Mark Orlando, Shaun Pearce, Paul Spittle. Subs: Darren McNamara, Fraser Gills, Simon Pagano, Wayne Holden, Stewart Parsons.
Next game Wednesday 16th November away to Chippy Old Boys, kick-off 7.45PM. Kings Arms on the way back (get in there).
