CHIPPY NORTON 3 - OXFORD CITY VETS 5
Oxford City vets returned to winning ways in the league last night at their favourite hunting ground... As always for this fixture the gaffa's phone was red hot during the day, with late withdrawals from the squad as the thought of a cold misty evening in Chippy proved to much for the pretty boys of the squad!!!
After a group hug in the changing room before kick off City came flying out of the traps and didn't have to wait too long for Andy Cooper to poke one home with his big toe after a vicious in swinging cross from Julian Dark. Justin Merritt then slotted home with his left peg after a clever one two with the chippy defender... The keepers cry of 'safe' as Justin 'I'll play if I don't get subbed' Merritt unleashed a fierce drive...
Andy Martin who as ever dominated the midfield then scored his customary goal after good work from Wayne 'Andy Cole' Holden. It appeared from the bench that Coley was happy to pass with the goal at his mercy after missing several sitters beforehand.
Man of the match Lee Sharkey was next on the score sheet after great work down the right hand side from Andy Warmington.. Sharks swooped at the near post with a glancing heading as he continued his impressive run of form. With the half ending Shaun Pearce slotted a cool finish after a neat interchange with Wayne Cole as City finished the half 5 - 0 to the good.
The gaffa didn't need to say much at the break but did stupidly mention the words 'a clean sheet would be good lads'!!! I can only assume that Grossy's toes had frozen whilst sitting on the bench and the lack of a half time cuppa really hurt the lads. Chippy to their credit kept battling away and scored 3 second half goals to make the score a little more respectable. Even the introduction of the assistant manager at right back couldn't stop the rot as the score finished 5 - 3 to the blue & white hoops.
The boys finished off the night in the Kings Arms in Woodstock and Creedy as always organised a couple of 40th Birthday parties and a hen do to ensure the boys went home happy!!
Man of the Match; Lee Sharkey
Attendance; 9 including both subs benches
Next Fixture; Hooky Away - Anyone fancy driving a minibus?
