City Vets maintained their 100% start to the season with a tough fought victory against their old friends Didcot Town. With Didcot fielding several ex City boys the game was always going to be tasty, and so it proved!!
Didcot did their best to unsettle our boys by throwing us on the shocking training pitch and with not even a cup of tea on offer it was game on.
Didcot had the best of the opening twenty minutes as City failed to get started. It came as no surprise when the lively Ian Coldcannon gave the home side the lead when beating the offside trap (come on Creedy, you know you give them!!) to calmly slot home.
This sprung City into action and with Wayne Harbert superb in midfield again, City started to impose themselves on the game. It took a bit of magic from our skipper to level the game, who equalised with a 25 yard stunner into the top right hand corner (we won't mention the slight deflection it took Jules)!! Five minutes later and City took the lead when Harbert stormed through the midfield and deceived the keeper with a ferocious drive!! City dominated the remainder of the half and could of extended their lead as both Wayne Holden & Shaun Pearce, who were combining well, had chances to put the game out of reach!!
Didcot came out firing in the second half as the game became a right royal ding dong.. With Wayne Holden & Ronnie Williams auditioning for Strictly Come Dancing half way through the game and the referee on a completely different planet, the game had it all!!
Didcot equalised through Coldcannon before City restored their lead after great work from the impressive Craig Doors down the right hand side.. Nozzer and Holder were still debating whether or not this was an OG well into the night, but Doorey was claiming it!!
Wayne Sholden was denied his goal to extend his barren run to two games and man of the match, Wayne Harbert, went close with another pile driver!!
City held out to a cracking 3 - 2 victory and look forward to two home game son the bounce!!
Great to see the City old boys, Fish, Primmer, Larry, Ronald et al and look forward to seeing you at our place boys!!
M of the M; Wayne Harbert. Attendance and impressive 32. After match food; 3/10. Referee 2/10 (yes they are getting worse!!)
