Saturday 4th January 2013 Blue Square Bet North Discussion etc, any predictions? Will go 2-0 City, they were pretty poor in the reverse fixture, a game we never should've lost

2-0 to us, both by Felipe. Attendance poor! A good opportunity to entrench ourselves in the playoff contenders again. If we play like we did in the last 20 mins vs Brackley we can beat anyone in this league. Confidence and determination will get us through.

I would introduce Dec early, as he was unavailable in the away fixture, after 6 goals early on. He is returning to top form, there are a number of options, but Liam is out and Cook has late fitness test. But we have the quality and momentum to get the result City 3-VM-0

Disappointing result today--hard to say how much Dec's sending off affected the result as we had looked unsafe at the back in the first half, and actually defended better in the second despite being under more pressure. But it did limit our effectiveness going forward. If Felipe had put away that one-on-one chance in the first minute of the second, it might all have been different, but VM also squandered two or three good chances in the first half and hit the bar in the second. And I don't want to criticise Felipe as he had one of his best games this season and hit a glorious equaliser. In fact, City worked hard today. It goes to show we should never underestimate opposition at this level. VM may not be one of the better teams in this division but they are still a competent outfit with an organised defence and a couple of quick front men who had the beating of our defence for pace. And remember that less than a year ago we were playing worse teams--we'd have thought VM were very strong in the Southern League. A few predictions above on here were IMO naively optimistic against a team that had beaten us three months before, and given that we don't usually nail opponents at home--we lost to Colwyn Bay who were no better than VM and drew wwith Droylesden who were weaker.
Anyway, we now face the three best teams in this division and without Dec and Liam (who I think should not have been brought on when not fully fit--he seemed to be hobbling a bit by the end--ankle still not right). Let's hope Cookie gets fit soon.

With respect, City were in there best form against VM away, just won 5-0 against Worky I was there, no Dec unavailible, in the best of his form, at this level players become unavilible, or go on holiday Felipe, seriously it was embarrassing the amount of chances that went begging in the game at berkenhead. Decs red was yet again another silly ploy that the ref fell for yet again. We must move on but accept no favour s from officials In the hope that we will eventually get the run of the green for once!

I was stood twenty-odd feet away - no "silly ploy" at all, Dec was a silly boy who made a stupid, reckless challenge. If it weren't for his shinpads, the lad's career could've been ended. Dreadful, horrific, pointless tackle.

Have to agree I was stood nearby no one means it but it was awful foul that had to be red, can understand if you were the other side of ground he did go down like a tone of bricks but contact was made

Have to agree it was a straight red. Not meant but over committed after losing control o fthe ball. Phillipe wasted chances and always will the way he plays. We are in need of a striker who can hold the ball up as well as score on a regular basis. Ballard & Pondy are not getting the chance to join the attacks as the ball is constantly lost early on and they are being used soley as defensive midfield players and I don't just mean in this game. Both have proven goal scoring records and both set up chances for others when involved in attacks.

To reply to City fan, my point is that it doesn't matter that we played well at VM but missed chances: the fact is, we lost. And it only feeds any potential complacency if we focus on how well we played and not on the result. To state the obvious, it's only the result which counts; playing well might reassure a team in trouble and give their fans some hope for the next game but it shouldn't make a team feel they will win the next match against those opponents just by sending the shirts out. Brackley may have made the same mistake against us. In both cases the better team got just one point from six.
