GAME OFF DUE TO SNOW
Anyone planning on going to this match? I am staying in Skipton that weekend so plan to get train down in time for a "few ales" in the famed Stalybridge Station Buffet which has been a CAMRA Mecca for years. Would like to think we are in with a chance here but think a 1-1 draw most likely?

Don't think Stalybridge are too confident it'll go ahead, still snow lying on the pitch and possibility of more tomorrow evening, hopefully we'll have a decision late tomorrow

Get the snow cleared..simple...+5c forecast in the Manchester area for Saturday!

the latest from Stalybridge:
"the pitch is OK, under the snow, we are hoping to get the snow off today, or most of it. It will all depend on the amount of snow that falls from 4pm ish..........and then how much the rain removes in the night, the temp tomorrow 4 degrees will be fine.. We may need volunteers at 8am in the morning, to start clearing any remaining snow, pitch inspection at 8.30am"

It might be a blessing in disguise the game being off we have a lot of injuries at the moment it will give Jim Harvey a bit more time to get them fit.

Maybe, but there's a world of difference between a professional Fourth Division club and non-league in terms of infrastructure and manpower - particularly in the light of the forecast for heavy overnight snow, which certainly materialised with a vengeance, and City's need for an early decision because of their early start. I've seen some matches played in unbelievably bad conditions in the '50s/'60s, and am sometimes surprised when matches are postponed nowadays, but I think it very difficult to see how this one could have happened.

They were building snowmen and having snowball battles on the M^6 last night as traffic ground to a standstill, but cleared by 9.00 this morning! 2o and sunny, but still >6 inches of lying snow in Manchester etc. Thawing fast up north - so might be OK for P.A. on Monday...though there may be floods by then!
