CD Marino just down the road from me have signed Dean Wilkins from Hinkley United. Marino are in Segunda B (3rd tier Spain)same as my mob CD Tenerife but they are bottom and going down. It's a small world - but you wouldn't want to paint it.

How is the pitch at the moment? Looking OK according to Ford in the Ox mail, would not want any heavy rain, but none really forecast, famous last words but fingers crossed.

Great result today, improved goal difference and back up to (I think) 8th in the table. Super start to part 2 of the season!

A game of two halves. The second quarter was amazing. Felipe was on fire and they had no answer. Second half quite disappointing--City were saving themselves and coasted, while Hinckley grew in confidence and could have scored at least one more.
First look at Callum--quick feet and nice touch, but workrate well below that of Liam, Andy and Dazza and he was caught in possession and muscled off the ball more than once so his contribution was not that significant. I suspect Mike will be expecting more than this if he is to stay in the squad. Maybe he needs time to become match-fit.
MoM for me was Paul Stonehouse. Even being played out of position, he never gave up and was always looking to press forward. Obviously Felipe had a great game too and he kept running in the second half, as did Dazza.
We need a right back. Then Mike can play people back in their natural positions. Until we get one, I'd play Learoyd there (he did that job very competently at times last season) or play a back three with two wing backs, Stonehouse on the left and Bell or Benjamin on the right.

I agree with the comments on Paul Stonehouse - he has been outstanding this season in the games I've seen.
I thought it was obvious that the 3 substitutions were not upto the same standard as the players they replaced, hence Hinckley avoided a complete drubbing. Holgate, McEachrean and Glass are not the same level as Basham. Ballard and Bell. And fron my first view of Callum he is no better than the players who have left the club.
My first choice back four would be Gunn, Wilmott, Learoyd, Stonehouse
Midfield Benjamin, Ballard, Pond, Bell
Forwards Basham, Barcelos

I think perhaps we have to look at Holgate for the work he does in holding up the ball, he's a different kind of player to Bash and isn't a prolific scorer but he works really hard and is a totally different forward to both Bash and Felipe, Zac is obviously very young and raw as a player but as evidenced at Chester he can have a very useful impact, perhaps not a starter yet i think we've got to give him a chance to mature and grow, it's a big step from youth to Blue square football, not really much of an opinion of Lee Glass as we've seen less of him than any of the others and i know very little of his career, don't forget we were without the suspended Dec and Josh Mulvany away so options on the bench were limited.
We seemed to have a second half that alot of teams with a big lead going into half time have, i'm not reading too much into the second half display as had we gone in 0-0 or 1-0 at the break i think we'd have had a much stronger second period, but as it was 6-0 we didn't really have too much to do.
Histon will be an interesting one, by all accounts a very very young side who play attractive attacking football so it could be a really open game

For Histon game we could see Mulveny start with Holgate.

Agree with the above comments, Saturday, though oviously we cruised the second half, the difference Ballard makes to the team is there for all to see, as soon as he went off we looked Shakey through the Midfield....Maybe missing Malone to help break the play in the mid also.
As for Holgate the problem people are having with him is that he's not getting stuck in around the opposition box, yes he's winning headers from goal kicks and yes he's holding the ball up but when it come sto the crunch in and around the box he just doesn't seem to have it....a guy of his size should score more goals with his head at set peices. He's played maybe 10 games for us, Ive seen 5 or 6 of those and I have yet to see him have a solide effort on target with his head or his feet. Doesn't even look close to scoring....and for a Centre forward thats not so good.
