Oxford City Colts U13 Match Report
7th March 2010
Greater Leys 0 - Oxford City Colts 7
It had been coming for some time and today was the day that saw City play to their potential and maintain their form for the entire match. And by doing so they dominated the game for long spells and cruised to a well deserved victory against a Greater Leys side who had beaten them earlier in the season at Court Place Farm.
A late kick off in Blackbird Leys allowed the overnight frost to thaw and despite the bright sunshine it was still a cold day for the City supporters. City started the match playing down the hill and immediately went on the offensive. Joe Roberson and Tyler Walker both looked comfortable on the ball and always had an outlet in the hard working Jack Kent. At the back there were still a few nervous moments but when Greater Leys broke through the first line of defence, Steven Lawson and Brian Muinami were always on hand to sweep up. With their dominance in midfield, it came as no surprise when after 15 minutes Jack Kent forced his way into the box and shot low and hard past the Greater Leys keeper to give City the lead.
Greater Leys tried to force their way back into the match and created a good scoring opportunity a few minutes later; City will need to thank Joe Russell for a good stop from a well struck shot. But City continued to look lively going forward with Tom Homer and Ben Tombs both using their pace to worry the home side’s defence. The continued pressure on the Greater Leys goal allowed City to double their lead just before the break, Jack Kent again on target for City.
At half time the boys were told not to lose concentration and start again as if the score were 0-0. Greater Leys now had the advantage of playing down hill but with Brian, Steven, Ben Proper and Mitchell White all playing well the home side failed to make a significant impression. And it was City who again started to take control of the game and play some excellent passing football. The midfield linked particularly with the attack which allowed City to create numerous scoring chances and this week they had no trouble in finding the back of the net. City added to their lead with goals from Jack Kent completing his second hat-trick in two games, Liam Williams and Alex Ball.
Unlike previous weeks, City kept going and did not let their opponents back into the game and in the last five minutes they scored two more. Liam Williams again arriving late at the far post to bag his second and Joe Roberson adding to keeper’s misery with a late strike.
So an excellent performance from the City side all of whom should be proud of their performances with every boy playing well for the entire match. It shows that with good discipline and concentration, City can start winning matches and climb up the table. Many thanks to Helen Ball for running the line.
Team: J Russell, B Proper, S Lawson, M White, B Muinami, T Homer, J Roberson, T Walker, L Williams, B Tombs, J Kent. Subs A Martin, A Ball,
