Just a little reminder that the World Cup kicks off on Friday – not that you need reminding I am sure As mentioned above, City will be screening the majority of the World Cup matches and it would be great to see you all there. There will be fun competitions throughout the World Cup including golden goal and shirt number of the first scorer with cash prizes to be won. In addition, we will also be running a raffle for the duration of the World Cup – tickets are just 10p each and there are a variety of prizes including a Brewery tour, cases of beer, bottles of wine, cinema tickets, signed cricket bat and more! As well as the above, this coming Saturday, in advance of the England game, there will a darts competition, Wii World Cup, penalty shoot out, face painting and a competition for children to design their own City/World Cup shirt. (Clubhouse will be open all day). There will also be food available including a BBQ on Saturday. After the England game there is a rumour of a band although this has yet to be confirmed – failing that there will definitely be music of some description. Any other questions, just shout. Look forward to seeing you all there! Sharon

Well, what can I say? What a great weekend of World Cup football and fun down at Oxford City! It all started on Friday with South Africa v Mexico but the main match of the weekend was, of course, England v USA. The atmosphere was building at City from mid-morning with lots of England flags and posters being put up around the Clubhouse. By the time the Argentina/Nigeria game was over, the smell of BBQ was in the air and World Cup songs - past and present - were being played. By 7pm the Clubhouse was almost full, the last golden goals were being bought and the last lick of face paint was being applied. The England boys game on, the music went off and it was time for the National Anthem. As England kicked off the air horns, whistles, rattles and cheering erupted throughout the Clubhouse. Four minutes in and Stevie G scored - I'm sure the roof came off as the Clubhouse went wild. ;D Unfortunately USA bagged themselves an equaliser just before half time Half time saw Dougie, ably assisted by Mr Shepperd, carry out the draw for the World Cup team competition - Jo and I got Australia.... come on you Aussies!! I will post a full list of countries and owners shortly. Well despite all our cheering, horn blowing, clapping, singing and whistling it was not to be and the game ended in a draw. Well done to Dick for winning the golden goal competition and Anita for winning the shirt number of the first goal scorer. Thank you to all the those children who entered our competition to design a World Cup shirt. Our three judges were Mr Shepperd, Sarah and Elisha and they had to deliberate long and hard before they came to a decision and first place was awarded jointly to Chloe and Mia and second place to Nikki. The judges said the decision was really hard and all the drawings were amazing although they were not overly impressed with my entry..... Pictures of all the entries will be on the website shortly. Due to popular demand the drawing competition will be back on Friday when we will be asking the children to design a new England logo and then the following Wednesday (23rd June) when they will be designing a new World Cup! Thank you to all those who came down, supported Oxford City, and cheered on England. Hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did even though we didn't quite manage a win. Don't forget the majority of the games are being shown in the Clubhouse and, of course, the next England game is on Friday against Algeria, kick off at 7.30pm. Look forward to seeing you all there. Thanks Sharon P.S. if you are at the Clubhouse, don't forget your raffle tickets. They are only 10p each and prizes current include: - Brewery tour (including tasting session) for 12 people - Cinema tickets - Cotswold Wildlife Park tickets - Yorkshire CCC signed cricket bat - Six bottles of white wine - 12 bottles of Wychwood Beer - Two pairs of cricket tickets and more. They will be on sale throughout the World Cup and the draw will take place on the day of the World Cup final. Attachments:
