Score - 1 - 1 Att - 850 Conmments -
well first game of the season is almost up on us, two teams of unknown quantity (not seen any PSFs) and with so many variables at play, not least the emotional atmosphere and uncertain future, it will go one of two ways but im playing safe with a hard fought but sloppy 1 - 1 draw.
Expecting a bumper crowd due to the circumstances...can't make it myself as at a wedding unfortunately.

City 2-1 Welling, att 400 Need to work on finishing, having enough chances and scored I believe 11 from 5 games and conceding 7 but with various formations. Hendo played well Tuesday. A few wayward shots though from forward line. Get them out of the system more accuracy, and defend to the whistle, do not assume anything is offside until you here the whistle and don't complain about it, someone got booked. Players coming on were very keen and wanted to get on the pitch which is always a good sign. Play Well and dont give them the chance to take the shirt. On a different note I spent most of the Night at Luton Airport which was so much better than their train station. And Moment of the game was getting asked by official what was our scorers Name? After a long pause he asked wether I knew my own name

A quick prediction for a starting XI , I'd go for something like this Stevens Odihambo Fawke Henderson Grant Soares McAuley Poku Winters Davies Mcdonagh
Enver-Marum, Fleet, Joseph, Asiedu-Ofosu, Neto

I've come up with a formation but it involves having 14 players on the pitch, Which isn't allowed However if we do start the above i would expect to see Fleet, Enver-Marum and Ofosu on at some stage Even Cundy. Oh dear i appear to have put 4 subs on....

Hi there, condolences from welling on your tragic loss. I was just wondering if there was going to be anything before the game to show respect.

Yes Indeed, just to remind everyone of the book of condolence in the 3G complex reception area next to the ground.

Happy to be wrong with the score prediction !
Although it was a match between two completely new teams who will take time to gel, based on the evidence of one game at best both teams will be mid-table at best. Welling were particularly disappointing, and are unlikely to be challenging to get back to the Conference with that team ( famous last words which might look quite stupid at the end of April ! )
I thought City deserved to win, although the second penalty looked dodgy to me - I wouldn't have been surprised to see the decision go the other way. Despite having most of the possession though, the Welling keeper was rarely called into action, and I am struggling to remember him making a save.
Thought their number 10 and 4 were their best players, with our defence initially struggling to cope with the number 10 - but as the game went on the risk was much diminished - probably as Henderson and Cundy got used to each other.
For me Scott Davies was the man of the match. Although he scored two penalties, Enver-Marum didn't do a lot and hopefully will show more against Hungerford.
Attendance was announced as 243

Agreed that Scott Davies was outstanding--as good a midfield performance as I can remember seeing from a City player in years. He was everywhere and really dominated the midfield. Perhaps we shall not miss Dazza as much as I feared! Hendo was very sound behind him but we didn't pose much of a threat up front, wasting all the chances that came our way apart from the penalties. Enver-Marum will not score any easier goals this season, but he took them well and it will be great for him to think he's got a brace on his debut. Welling were disappointing and although they will no doubt improve, we won't get many home matches as straightforward as this; I've seen refs not give penalties when we had better shouts than those--the second was not stonewall; but the first looked right, and if so, I think Sprague was lucky to stay on the pitch when we had a golden opportunity to score and he was last man.
Liked the brief glimpse we had of Asiedu-Ofosu (? not sure of the name, programmes sold out early despite the low attendance) and hope to see more of him in action soon.
Overall, a nice one to win on a day of sad reflection when everyone was missing Colin. It's a very new team which will take time to gel, but there is some promise there and if we can realize that, we may not face the relegation battle I expected.

My understanding is that FIFA changed the laws during the close season so that it is no longer a red card and a penalty for the denial of a goal scoring opportunity - the so called double jeopardy. If so then the yellow for the first penalty was correct.
The programme gave the attendances for all this seasons fixtures - it will make the predictions a bit easier !

had to laugh at this line from one report
Honestly the clearest penalty i've ever seen in my life, I think the players went to him as he showed a yellow under the new rules and perhaps players aren't aware that it won't be a red anymore in that situation inside the box
