It doesn't seem all that long ago that Quarry Nomads and Oxford City linked up, but... Bank Holiday Monday's fixture against Brackley Town Saints will be Nomads' 450th league match in the Hellenic League (and their 561st overall).

It's crazy how quickly time seems to have gone, i remember at the time when it first happened, Oxford Quarry Nomads came to play at Marsh Lane and alot of people were quick to judge and say that Oxford City were killing Quarry when in fact there wouldn't have been a Quarry Nomads because Keith Dolton was running the club single handed and was keen to retire.
Interestingly Quarry 09 were formed in 2009 (my brother in law was secretary) and had i think just the 1 season where they won the Junior League and i think the Junior sheid before folding due to lack of interest on the playing side (they even roped in Steve Jenkins on a couple of occasions) , Chequers Quarry (sunday) have been playing on the old Nomads pitch at Margaret Rd but i believe they've now folded so it's just Masons Arms (Junior league) using it these days , the brand new changing room block is taking shape now so i do wonder if they'll be another Quarry saturday side popping up

Absolutely right. There really was a lot of animosity towards City at 'killing off' a long-established club, but as you say, Quarry Nomads were probably on their last legs if left at Margaret Road. And City Reserves in the Suburban League were not a lot better off: with two-men-and-a-dog crowds and a lot of tedious travelling into London. The Oxford Quarry Nomads/City Nomads route kept another Hellenic standard club in the City. With Abingdon Town and Witney Town both falling by the wayside (though good to see ATFC beginning to come back again) over the last decade there would not have been much of Hellenic standard left in the area.
