Chinnor Girls v Oxford City Girls Under 11s
On a cold and windy morning in Chinnor, City attempted to bounce back after their defeat away at Swindon two weeks ago. City go in to the game without top goal scorer Alice Ford, keeper Freya Mowbray and striker Blanche Mayo.
1st Half: 2-2-2; Rhiannon Weller; Isabella Richards, Megan Thorpe(C); Iona Smith, Lauren Page; Miriam Prichard, Chloe Holden. Subs: Dara Austin, Tara Mulcahy-Murray, Lily Hernandez, Zoe Washington, Alex Davy.
The game started fairly even with the City girls getting to grips with their new formation. There were not many early chances but the girls were working really hard and doing everything they had been asked in training. Midfielder Iona Smith was really playing some great stuff as her performances continue to improve. The defence of Izzy Richards and Megs Thorpe was also very strong limiting Chinnor's chances. On 13 minutes the Hoops got the breakthrough with a well struck shot from Lauren Page to score her 1st Oxford City goal and put city ahead. There were no more real efforts on goal before the break.
HT 0-1
2nd Half: 2-2-2; Rhiannon Weller; Isabella Richards(Dara Austin), Megan Thorpe(C); Iona Smith, Lauren Page; Miriam Prichard, Chloe Holden(Lily Hernandez).
After a really tight first half Ash "The cat" Hope and Wayne "Rafa" Holden decided to send the same team out for the 2nd half. The match was a real battle with neither team giving an inch. Although City had most of the possession Chinnor defended well but with a little more precision in the final third. City could of added to their solitary goal with further attempts on goal, Dara Austin came on for Izzy who had worked very hard at the back and Lily Hernandez recovering from the knee injury picked up at Swindon came on to provide a threat on the left replacing Chloe Holden with Lauren pushed up front. Not many more chances for either team and no further goals the Hoops ran out deserved winners.
FT 0-1
After the league game Chinnor agreed to play a friendly so that Ash and Wayne could give a run out to the subs who they could not get on because of the tightness of the league game. City won this match 3-1 with goals from Alex Davy, Rhiannon Weller and Zoe Washington. It was a really good game played in a great spirit and a special mention to the girls who didn't get on in the league game but who showed a fantastic attitude and all played well in the friendly.
Regards,
James
