It was what we hoped for after Monday's setback: a response from the players, who showed more commitment and urgency under difficult playing conditions. But the old cliché about a game of two halves was really true today, mainly because of the slope and the wind. It was always likely that we would face a tough test against both in the second half so we needed the cushion of at least a two-goal lead, but it took us 45 minutes to achieve that. Had we been more clinical or more lucky it would have been 4-0 or 5-0 by then and game over: why do we make it difficult for ourselves? More chances were squandered early in the second half before the inevitable Crusader fight-back, but then we defended doggedly, and it was good to see young Connor Stevens given a run in the closing stages.
The highlights for me were Matt Paterson's screamer of a shot into the top corner, one of the best goals we have seen this season, and Rob Sinclair's cool finish when put in by Zac. In the second half, one particularly brilliant save by Jack Stevens kept us in the lead. Overall, Godfrey Poku was immense -- he was just everywhere, proving he should not have been omitted on Monday! And we played so well as a team at times in the first half: lovely to see us going through them like a knife through butter.
On the down side, Cristian Navarro's booking means he will face a suspension now; and I hope Mo is not injured, but his substitution at half time didn't help us today as we lost a gritty ball-winner for a creative player when Reece came on into conditions that were never going to suit him.
It was interesting to see us line up in 4-2-4 formation at the start, and this seemed to work well on the whole, but Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, having proved he had the beating of Paul Stonehouse, then drifted into the middle and denied us the option of width on that side. When he went back there, his runs were great, but he needs to improve his crossing. On the other side, we missed Dave Pearce's crosses; Zac played well but as we saw at Notts County, left wing is not his best position.
Tuesday will be tough if the Havant pitch recovers in time-- they will be fresher after today's postponement. But for now, let's celebrate our first double of the season!

Bullpit Lane should be renamed just Pit Lane, awful ground with a horrendously sloping pitch that was in large places just mud. The fact that the lads played some fantastic attacking football was a credit to them all.
First half we took Hungerford apart but when Pato crashed a magnificent half volley off the crossbar I thought it’s going to be one of those days, but thankfully he rifled in an even better effort to take the lead. With the slope I always thought we needed a two or three goal lead, and up pops the little maestro Sinclair to calmly slot his goal just on the half time whistle.
Second half Hungerford just kept pumping the ball forward, they got lucky with their goal after the ball ricoched around the box. Up step Stevens who produced at least two fantastic saves to keep them at bay.
A fantastic team performance, as for motm, I see Jack got it, but for me Poku, Pato or Sinclair could have quite easily got it they were that good!

Excellent response by management and team to NYD performance/ team selection. Bringing in a talented lad with great potential from Watford has to be praised as well he was only on for ten minutes but won two challenges One which looked crucial Also shedenders sang throughout game! Not going to be negative about missed chances as On another day it will be 4 or 5 and that can't come soon enough. Poku and Stevens excellent everyone put in a shift.

Great result for the Hoops - beginning to put some daylight between themselves and the 'trapdoor' now. But I'm sure Jonah and all the players will know there's still a hard few months to go before safety is assured. "Marsh Place Lane Court Farm" was a dire pitch at times before the welcome(?) arrival of plastic, so I don't think we can be too critical of others' grounds. .

You could certainly hear the Shedenders on the Pundit radio commentary! Enhanced by Hungerford's fans. As I said yesterday at the game...amongst the quietest I've ever known, home and away!

Had to laugh at the interview on Youtube with the Hungerford managers after the game, where they were asked about the 'very good vocal support'! I remember one chant just into the second half, but can't really recall anything other than that!
