Fair result between two evenly-matched teams, both of which defended well but lacked the scoring touch when chances came their way. The talking point for me is once again substitutions. It was good to see David Oldfield willing to change the pattern and personnel quite early this time, and it did make a difference -- City looked livelier in the second half. However, it was clear that Joe Oastler was sailing close to the wind and likely to get the second yellow sooner or later. He did nothing seriously wrong but it was just an accumulation of niggling fouls. Given the situation, I thought he should have been subbed off to protect him for the cup game, but it was Hall, just before the sending off. This meant Nana Owusu who had just come on for the last ten minutes had to play left back instead of forward.
More significantly, if the suspension applies next weekend we shall go into our biggest match without our captain and organiser, and very short of experience at the back. With Matsuzaka injured, Oastler suspended and Gubbins not available the defence is looking thin!

A joy to listen to a measured and articulate summary of the game from David Oldfield.
Thank you for your warm hospitality yesterday, for your immaculate organisation in these surreal times, and for a decent game of football with the points correctly shared.
We wish you all success at Shrewsbury next weekend as you carry the National South cause forward, we look forward to welcoming you at Priory Lane in February - who knows, perhaps even with real spectators...
- from all at Eastbourne Borough

Thank you Kevin, Glad you enjoyed your day, and got back to lockdown safely. 😉 Not many on here at the moment, some pondering the probable absence of our captain next week at Shrewsbury; Our other main center back is on the mend, and could be doubtful for the game. However it is a team sport, other players have played out of position before, and it's their chance to step up to the plate, and show what they are made of.
