Good luck for the season City. I hope to get over to a game fairly soon. It's another 2 weeks until CD Tenerife start life back in the Segunda. Vamos El Blanquiazul and Come on you Hoops.

1-1. Bit lacklustre in first half, but we picked up in second-half. Ballard had a great game. Burgess much improved since I saw him in the Dons friendly.

At least it is a better start than last season !
Having said that, I didn't think Bedford were any great shakes. Well organised but nothing outstanding, they were there for the taking as they either faded or settled for draw after being much the better team in the first half. They will be mid-table at best.
I thought it was odd that Lyons played as the target man in the first half. Presumably the departure of Lee Steele didn't lead to any change in the tactics of the long ball to the small man up front ! Despite this Lyons was probably out best player in the first half.
The arrival of Brooks changed the pattern of the game, and City looked much better. Unfortunately he missed the best chance the win the match. I didn't think Burgess did much until Brooks came on, rarely playing the ball forward until showing some urgency in the last 20 minutes.
A very disappointing attendance ( 151 ) for the first game of the season, and there were probably about 50 fans from Bedford. One pound for a cup of tea might also be the most expensive in the league !

I'd sum up the game by saying we did 'alright'
Our two best players on the day were Lyonsy and Ballard, Liam Malone had a decent game too.
Savage, James Knight & Ollie Burgess have, and will have better games than this.
Nothing to note about Bedford and i wouldn't expect them to do too much this season, Draycott who is usually the thorn in our side was unusually quiet today, we had chances in the first & second half wheras Bedford had a decend 1st half but were pretty quiet and looked tired for the 2nd.
Brooks changed the game, allowing Janesy to move into the middle and opening up the full backs, linking very well with El Sandy.
Looking forward to seeing how we do at Chesh on tuesday, they had a 3-0 win at Truro which is a very good result, we'll have the added availabiliy of Billy Beechers and perhaps a chance to see what Holman has to offer.

It's a shame that we've not stepped out of the old habit of only attacking once we've conceded. They prove every week that they've got it in the them to destroy teams with their counter attacking football. The forward line is very strong, with some creative and skilful players. But it only ever seems to come good when we go a goal behind. Keep it tight at the back, go in at half time 0-0, then start to push on when the oppositions legs go. To many times last season (and again on Saturday), they committed too early and conceded a sloppy goal as a result. Still, very confident for the new season. As I say, the front line (Janesy, Lyon and Sandy - Burgess showed some potential, and Brooksy of the bench really changed the game) has the ability to trouble any side. On another day City could have won that game by 2 or 3 in the second half. Did you see our flag? Hopefully get a little match report on my mates website today: www.downtotenmen.com
