I thought Bill Reynolds' Oxford Radio report rather harsh on both teams. It wasn't such a poor match--it was just that defenders were generally playing better than forwards, and both keepers had good games. Both our home debutants, Hector and Mills, impressed, though Hector should have netted from that first half free kick chance. Overall it was a fair result based on possession, though the Royalists may feel they were unlucky not to score with one of those chances which hit our bar. Knight got a good touch on the second--a fine save. And at the other end, a lot of us thought Sandy had a pretty good shout for a penalty turned down.
The concern for City is where the goals are going to come from. We are missing Lee Steele. True, Janes, Lyon and Pond (and Fisher?) may make a difference when available, and Sandy could grab a few once his confidence returns, but we are lacking a really regular goalscorer. Two goals from four starts is not mid-table form. On the positive side, Dan Holman looked lively when he came on near the end. I'd love to see him given a chance at this level and get on the scoring sheet.

yeah, the goals will come eventually, we had chances last night, mainly through harding, but we seem so tense to win, maybe need to relax a little, and play football, as long as we get it wide on saturday to harding and whoever plays on the other flank, we will have a good chance in this league, defence looked really solid aswell.

It was an intriguing match's.
I thought City did OK, but as said looked abit blunt up top. I also thought Malone and Clarke had good games, putting themselves about abit with some hard but very well timed tackles. I was also impressed with Holman as well and would like to see him given a chance.
I did think however, apart from looking abit blunt up top we relied on Harding to much in the second half, He is a quality player without a doubt but no matter what level you play at your going to struggle if you have to take on 2 players every time you get the ball and thats exactly how W&E played him toward the end. There was barely anything down city's right flank for chunks of the second half. As everything went through Harding.
On another note whats this long ball, pin point pass into the channel stuff I'm seeing, keep it on the deck and play the passing game that your good at,please....
I think also we could do with another midfield player or goal scoring center forward who can hold the ball up and draw defenders for others to exploit gaps, which apart from goals is also something Steele was very good at and we are now missing.
Also curious by Janes's absents.....

I totally agree with the sentiments on Holman. If he's fit and ready to play then why not give him a starting place? I don't see how we will score goals with El & Faulks upfront. Don't get me wrong, they are good poachers and make a nuisance in the box, but neither are likely (from what I've seen and heard this season) to create a chance. We miss Steele!

Would start Holman over Faulks at Truro, can't do any harm, both he & Felipe livened us up when they came on
