Didcot Derailed
5th Dec 09 - Oxford City FC 3 vs 2 Didcot
City and Didcot sat on level points going in to the game so it was a match both teams very much needed to win.
Saturday 5th December
Oxford City u11s v Didcot Casuals u11s
On a beautiful Winters morning at Court Place Farm the City girls meet title rivals Didcot for the first time this season, with Ash and Wayne having a full squad to pick from apart from Lauren Page(unavailable) and some very good training sessions behind them a strong performance was expected.
1st Half; 2-2-2; Freya Mowbray; Rhiannon Weller, Megan Thorpe(C); Iona Smith, Lily Hernandez, Miriam Prichard, Alice Ford. Subs: Dara Austin, Chloe Holden, Zoe Washington, Isabella Richards, Blanche Mayo.
The match started and straight from the off it was evident that the City girls were up for this match. The whole team were working really hard and this was the first time the work that's been done has really paid off. The passing and movement from City was excellent with all players doing exactly what they had been asked. City took the lead on 9 minutes when leading goalscorer Alice "NODDY" Ford burst into the box and scored with a neat finish. The girls continued to boss the game and got a second goal on 16 minutes after Miriam Prichard showed her strength and took her chance really well to put her side 2-0 up. For the last 5 minutes of the half Didcot really came back into the match themselves playing some cracking football with 2 minutes till half time they struck a long range shot that city keeper Freya "THE KITTEN" Mowbray did very well to push over.
HT 2-0
2nd Half; 2-2-2; Freya Mowbray; Rhiannon Weller, Megan Thorpe(C); Iona Smith, Lily Hernandez ,Miriam Prichard, Alice Ford. Subs: Dara Austin, Chloe Holden, Zoe Washington, Isabella Richards, Blanche Mayo.
The instructions from "The Cat" and "Rafa" at half time were that this match was far from over and the girls would have to work like never before if they were to take the three points. From the start of the half Didcot pinned City back in their half with some fantastic attacking football. After 5 minutes Ash replaced the hard working Rhiannon with the equally hardworking Izzy Richards but that did not stop Didcot scoring a neat goal on 29 minutes and then 3 minutes later the equaliser. With Didcot now really strong City sent on Blanche Mayo and Chloe "BIG EARS" Holden to try and keep City in the game. After the equaliser city seemed to get a second wind with Alice dropping deep to help the midfield with Lily and Chloe really helping the defence. With time running down Blanche showed some amazing skill in midfield and then took it on a strong run down the left flank then she cut into the box got her head up and played a wonderful pass for Alice to bundle home the winner on 36 minutes. For the rest of the half Didcot could not break City down with notable tackles and blocks from Megan "THE BEAST" Thorpe, Lily Hernandez and Chloe Holden.
FT 3-2
This was by far the best performance the girls have had since they started, their attitude and work rate is second to none and to come back and score a winner after being 2-0 up just shows how far they have come. The result also shows that they are once again serious title contenders.
After the match we had a game of "WEMBLEY" to give the girls who didn't get on a run out. With a bag of chocolate up for grabs the competition was fierce. With "THE CAT" in goal making saves Gordon Banks would have been proud of it was feared by the parents present it might never finish! But when it did Chloe " BIG EARS" Holden beat Rhiannon 2-1 in the final to claim the prize, this event was marred by some blatant cheating by "RAFA" to set up his daughter for a goal in the early rounds, shocking!! Oh well its about the only thing Liverpool will win this season!!
