The vets got off to a flying start to their campaign last night with an excellent 6-1 win away to Stonesfield.
The boys obviously looked a bit rusty for the first 10 minutes, and fell behind to a well taken goal after only 5 minutes. It was only a matter of time before we started to gel, and produce some fine passing football, and they were rewarded with an equalizer midway through the half through an excellent free-kick from 25 yards from Paul "Bend it like Beckham" Kimber that flew into the top corner giving the Stonesfield keeper no chance. City were now producing some stylish football, and it was amazing that it took until the last minute of the half to get that crucial second goal. Dave Southam cutting in from the left shot from the cutest of angles, and the goalie could not hold onto the ball, such was the speed that Southy struck the ball(you had to be their to see it)
HALF-TIME: Stonesfield 1 Oxford City 2
Mine & Creedy's half-time team talk seemed to do the trick, as we told them all that the next goal is crucial, and 2 goals came within the first 3 minutes of the restart. Julian Dark popped up with the first after good work from Mark Orlando & then a minute later Paul Kimber added his second with an excellent finish from 20 yards. Stonesfield were now beginning to tire & now finding it very difficult to cope with the passing & movement of City, and it was no surprise when 2 more were added in quick succession with 15 minutes remaining. Dave Southam added his second (well he is claiming it?) after shooting and taking about 10 ricochets on the way through to trickling into the bottom corner. Mike Ford then did something that his (not mine) forwards hasn't done all season? Score a goal. I suppose I better talk you through it. It was an excellent chip from 20 yards that had the Stonesfield keeper clutching for thin air??? That's all I'm going to say about it. 2 in his last 2 for Fordy now. Take note first team striker's, but don't worry he'll have a suspension coming up soon?
Pleased with the way the 3 new signings of Carl Fisher, Antony Hill & Barry Primmer fitted in last night. They all look excellent additions to the squad.
Must give a mention to Creedy also, who had a run out in the last 5 minutes, and entertained everybody with the way he was spraying the ball about? Bring your flag again next week please Creedy.
FINAL SCORE: Stonesfield 1 Oxford City 6
Goalscorers: Paul Kimber 2, Dave Southam 2, Julian Dark, Mike Ford
