Another cracking performance from the boys last night. With various key players unavailable last night, and only myself and Creedy on the bench, to come away with any result away at Chippy would be a bonus. To come away with a 3-0 win was an absolute credit to the boys. One of the best performances we have put in since I have been Manager.
With only 10 minutes gone, panic stations as Mike Ford picked up a groin injury and had to be replaced by my number 1 Linesman Paul Creed. 2-3 good chances went begging before we finally took the lead halfway through the half. Good work by Paul Kimber & Antony Hill down the right flank, lead to the latter crossing for Dave Southam to clinically volley home from 10 yards. Chippy then had a 10 minute spell where they asserted some pressure on the City goal, but some stern defending from the back four & an excellent save from a point blank header from Carl Fisher kept Chippy at bay. Right on the stroke of half-time, an excellent move down the right side involving Barry Primmer & Antony Hill and a fantastic header from Mark Orlando, well saved by the Chippy goalie, deserved more.
HALF-TIME: CHIPPY OLD BOYS 0 OXFORD CITY 1
City really came out of the traps 2nd half, and it was no surprise when they doubled their advantage 5 minutes in. Paul Kimber put debutant Stewart Parsons through one on one with the keeper. His shot was saved but only parried out to Mark Orlando, who made no mistake by smashing the ball home with his RIGHT foot (Yes, the one he normally uses for standing on Only?). City continued to dominate, and the 3rd goal came courtesy of yours truly with 5 minutes remaining. Antony Hill once more involved, rolled the ball into Wayne Holden's feet on the edge of the box, he turned his marker and curled one in with his left foot into the top corner (no it didn't take a deflection Fordy???).
FULL-TIME: CHIPPY OLD BOYS 0 OXFORD CITY 3
GOALSCORERS: Dave Southam, Mark Orlando, Wayne Holden.
TEAM: Carl Fisher, Liam Carroll, Mike Ford, Simon Pagano, Julian Dark, Antony Hill, Barry Primmer, Paul Kimber, Mark Orlando, Dave Southam, Stewart Parsons. Subs: Paul Creed, Wayne Holden
The boys then celebrated the win with a few glasses of Champagne at their old favourite jaunt, The Kings Arms in Woodstock. A great night was had, but it came at a cost, as new keeper, Carl Fisher this morning has now slapped a transfer request in to join Chippy for the rest of the season???
Next game next Wednesday, Brize Norton at home in the First Round of the Veterans County Cup, Kick-off 7.45PM.
