The Vets continued there 100% winning record with another impressive away victory last night, this time winning 5-1 against a very strong Abingdon Town side.
Last night proved that to have a strong subs bench is crucial, as new signing Shaun Pearce from Kidlington & Stewart Parsons both came of the bench to both grab a couple of goals each.
After last week's excellent win against Kidlington, myself and Creedy said it was important that we came out early, and played at the same pace as we did the week before. In fact we came out for the first 10 minutes, and did the complete opposite, and we got punished after only 10 minutes falling behind to a well worked goal from Abingdon Town forward David Dix. This was probably the wake up call we needed, because the boys then started to step up a gear, and a couple of good chances went begging. City were then forced into a change midway through the half, as leading goalscorer Dave Southam pulled up with a hamstring injury, and was replaced by new signing Shaun Pearce. His impact was immediate, as within 5 minutes of coming on he fired in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box after good work from Wayne Holden. 10 minutes before half-time, City went in front, when Justin Lee's fine through ball put Ronnie Williams through who delicately chipped the on rushing keeper.
HALF-TIME: Abingdon Town 1 Oxford City 2.
City dictated the play in the 2nd half, and were rewarded 10 minutes in when Barry Primmer got down the right wing, and put in a perfect cross for Simon Pagano to head back across the six yard box for Shaun Pearce to nod in his second from close range. We then made various changes, and substitute Stewart Parsons got on the score sheet with 15 minutes remaining after a clinical finish from Paul Kimber's excellent through pass. He then added his 2nd after Shaun Pearce's fine effort was parried out by the Abingdon Town keeper straight into the path of Stewart Parsons, who made no mistake to wrap up another convincing away win.
FULL-TIME: Abingdon Town 1 Oxford City 5.
GOAL-SCORERS: Shaun Pearce (2), Ronnie Williams, Stewart Parsons (2).
TEAM: Carl Fisher, Antony Hill, Simon Pagano, Gary Murphy, Steve Foote, Barry Primmer, Paul Kimber, Justin Lee, Ronnie Williams, Wayne Holden, Dave Southam. Subs: Shaun Pearce, Robert Tutton, Liam Carroll, Stewart Parsons, Paul Creed.
Next game in a fortnight's time (Weds 4th November), yet again another away fixture this time in the Quarter Finals of the County Cup to Chinnor, who also play at Abingdon Town, kick-off 7.45PM.
P.S - It was good to see that the Diddy boys (sorry I mean Wallingford boys or wherever your from?) of Ant, Fish & Primmer not only pass to each over only, but also fall over together??? From Me to you... to you to me... to me to you... was the shout all night. Creedy has now called them the "CHIMNEY BOYS"!!!
