City Vets made it through to the semi-final of the OFA County Cup with a hard earned 2-1 win away to high flying Chinnor.
City could have taken the lead in the first minute after Antony Hill's excellent cross was blasted over the bar by Justin Lee from 15 yards. This was to be City's only real chance of the 1st half, and a couple of fine saves midway through the half from keeper Carl Fisher kept City in the tie, but 3 minutes into injury time in the first half, Chinnor took a deserved lead after slack defending allowed Steve Bird to fire Chinnor ahead.
HALF-TIME: Chinnor 1 Oxford City 0
After City's lacklustre performance in the first half, a triple substitution & a change in formation was made. On came Andy Cooper for his debut, left back Steve Foote & left winger Mark Orlando. The impact was immediate, and City began to really dominate. Paul Kimber & Shaun Pearce had clear cut chances, plus a fine Justin Lee effort scraped the bar, but it seemed like it was just going to be one of those nights. City were bombarding the Chinnor goal, but still could not find a way past the Chinnor keeper. 15 minutes to go, and the final roll of the dice. A double substitution, bringing forwards Stewart Parsons & Wayne Holden on for a defender & midfield and going 3-4-3. This seemed to do the trick, as with only 10 minutes remaining City got their fully deserved equalizer. The goal came courtesy of new signing Andy Cooper, who powered home a header from Antony Hill's perfect cross. 2 minutes later and City got the winner, as Andy Cooper launched one of his Rory Delap's in to the box, and it flew to the far side of the box where Paul Kimber was on hand to slot home. City held on to a very hard earned victory, and will now meet Old Hooky away in the Semi-final. Credit to Chinnor for an entertaining & very tough game. Must give a mention to our excellent linesman once again Darrell "SPECKY" Cribben. Also good to see Tav come and support the boys last night, along with his side kick Bas.
FULL-TIME: Chinnor 1 Oxford City 2.
TEAM: Carl Fisher, Gary Murphy, Robert Tutton, Simon Pagano, Liam Carroll, Antony Hill, Barry Primmer, Justin Lee, Ronnie Williams, Shaun Pearce, Paul Kimber. Subs: Andy Cooper, Mark Orlando, Steve Foote, Stewart Parsons, Wayne Holden.
Back in league action next Wednesday playing Chinnor again with our first home league fixture of the season, kick-off 7.45PM
