Could City keep up their impressive form and win their final match before the Christmas break?
Saturday 12th December
Oxford City U11s v Carterton U11s
After last weeks cracking performance and result against Didcot, Ash and Wayne decided to freshen up the starting line up and give players a chance in some different positions. Could the girls keep up the same level of performance?
1st Half: 2-2-2. Freya Mowbray(c); Rhiannon Weller, Tara Mulcahy-Murray; Lauren Page, Lily Hernandez; Miriam Pritchard, Alice Ford. Subs: Dara Austin, Chloe Holden, Zoe Washington, Isabella Richards, Megan Thorpe.
The match started and the girls were not as quick into the flow as previous weeks but still dominated the early possession against a well organised Carterton side who worked hard to get players behind the ball and frustrate the hoops. City broke the deadlock on 13 minutes when the prolific Alice "NODDY" Ford slotted home with a smart finish. From then on the girls dominated the half with defence and midfield quickly clearing their lines. Five minutes after the opener the other half of the hoops lethal strike force Miriam Pritchard netted to put the girls 2-0 up at half time. Carterton were no doubt pleased to go in to the break only 2 goals behind.
HT 2-0
2nd Half: 2-2-2 Freya Mowbray; Isabella Richards, Dara Austin; Megan Thorpe(c), Chloe Holden; Lauren Page, Alice Ford. Subs: Tara Mulcahy-Murray, Zoe Washington, Lauren Page, Lily Hernandez, Miriam Pritchard.
Ash and Wayne made plenty of changes at half time with Isabella Richards and Dara Austin coming on in defence and Captain Megan Thorpe and Chloe Holden coming into midfield with Lauren Page moving up front with Alice. The girls started the half very strong and at times Carterton could just not live with the hoops' passing and movement. Again they are really starting to see the benefit of the hard work at training as Alice made it 3-0 on 22 minutes with another superb finish. Then on 25 minutes Captain Megan "THE BEAST" Thorpe scored her first City goal with a well struck long range effort. The girls were looking like scoring on every attack now dominating possession and playing some lovely football. Lauren Page got the girls fifth on 31 minutes when her cracking corner went straight in, a good reward for great corners throughout the game. The sixth came on 40 minutes when Chloe Holden made a great tackle in midfield and Megan Thorpe carried on with the ball and used some brilliant skill to beat two defenders and slot home coolly into the bottom corner. There was still time for City to make it seven when after more fantastic play in midfield the ball came out to Megan Thorpe on the wing to cross well for Rhiannon Weller to finish after she had came on upfront for the last 5 minutes.
This was another very solid all round performance even with all the changes. The girls all knew what they should be doing and the difference is amazing. We have got great team spirit and its great to see all the girls wanting to celebrate with the goalscorer. Also none of the subs are letting their heads drop when not selected, I know Ash, Wayne and myself are very proud of the work you girls are putting in so keep it up and have a fantastic Christmas and New Year.
