The Vets continued their 100% winning record last night beating Chippy Old Boys at home in an entertaining match 5-3.
City dominated the early stages of the game, and had several clear cut chances to put Chippy out of sight, but the goal didn't come until the 31st minute, when Paul Kimber was brought down in the box. Ronnie Williams stepped up to convert past the impressive Chippy keeper. City then conceded an equalizer completely against the run of play right on the stroke of time. City went in at half-time level, ruing the missed chances.
HALF-TIME: City 1 Chippy 1
City made 4 changes at half-time, and were soon putting Chippy on the back foot, but once again a mix of the woodwork and some fine saves from the Chippy keeper were frustrating City. They eventually got the breakthrough 10 minutes in, when Mike Ford put in a teasing cross, and Barry Primmer went in bravely with the keeper to head home from 8 yards.
City went searching for the crucial 3rd goal to kill off any hopes of Chippy getting back in, but once again Chippy bounced back with an equalizer with 17 minutes remaining after Steve Foote brought down the Chippy forward, and the resulting penalty being dispatched to bring the scores level again.
Worse was to follow for City within 2 minutes off Chippy equalizing they took the lead after a right wing cross was headed home at the far post by the Chippy forward to make the score unbelievably City 2 Chippy 3.
15 minutes to go, and panic stations for the leaders that there 100% winning record could be coming undone, but they dug in, and got their equalizer with 8 minutes remaining after Gary Murphy's pin point cross was headed in at the far post by Ronnie Williams for his second of the game.
City then went in front 3 minutes later after Dave Southam's cross from the left was powerfully headed home by Mike "goal a game" Ford.
The game was wrapped up in the last minute with the best goal of the game, after Gary Murphy powered down the right wing, and whipped over a cross for Paul Kimber to volley home from 15 yards and give a relieved City a 5-3 victory to keep up their 100% winning streak.
