Jamie Cook released by Crawley, rumours again on a few different message boards that he wants to go part-time as he's a pretty good golfer and wants to dedicate more time to playing
sure he still lives around the Witney area , in my opinion IF we could afford/tempt him to Court Place Farm an ideal replacement for Savage, a very classy player with experience

Mark,
I believe Sav is planning a break from football first but you never know for the future.

Sav would be an excellent coach, i think he has the badges already.
Can't blame him for wanting a break from Football first though, it's been a long career

Would be more like the ideal replacement for Lee Steele if he decides to retire.....

It was also announced at the presentation evening that Steele is playing on for at least another season with us.
Another players name ive heard dished around is Steve Basham, he's been suffering with alot of injuries and isn't happy at Brackley anyway, add to that he has got a new job in Summer town.
Could be useful as first team back-up and/or impact sub (still has the skills, just not the fitness, so I heard)

I've always rated Bash, think he was probably on big money at Brackley and not too sure if he's one of a group (i know of Turley and Franny Green) that are on 2 year contracts (this being the 2nd year),like you say very injury prone.
This seasons got to be S**t or bust for Brackley with the money they're paying, especially after last years disaster

Bash works with my Mother and I asked her a few weeks back what he was planning for next season and at the time his response was very much a "I have no idea at moment". Not sure how to read that whether that means he is on contract or whether he's not. Who knows?

If Clarkey goes could we tempt Gunny back?

Personally id like to see Gunny back regardless....
We need a centre-back to replace McIllwain and I have my fingers and toes crossed Clarky does decide to stay.
Blossom, Clarky, Gunny, Organ is a good back line for any team at this level.
The big concern of course now with the surprise exit of Liam is the mid field, Ballard can take up the Hard-tackaling - holding midfield role that Liam played so well, but weather he has the energy to do that week-in week out or up to 3 times a week if necessary is probably pushing it abit, sine he aint getting any younger himself.
We also need a midfield play maker, to replace Sav, Although Sav lost a noticable yard of pace last season he was still one fo the only players that had the ability make that 'killer' pass to feet and feed in Steele and Felipe... as lets be honest as good as Steele is at holding the ball up he aint gonna win much in the air.
Having already lost Sav and Malone, if we also lose Clarkey & Felipe its going to be another uphill struggle I fear next season.

Darren Pond is looking good for pre-season which is a huge boost. If he can regain full fitness and sharpness then he'll slot in nicely in midfield. The amount of goals he used to get from making that late run in to the box was always useful. Of course we must remember that he's coming back from a long lay off and we shouldn't expect the sort of form we've seen before straight from the off.

I'd have Gunny back in a heartbeat, regardless of Clarkeys situation.
To be fair, Clarkey deserves to have a shot at playing higher up the pyramid, hes been brilliant for us, if he does stay it'll be a massive bonus.
Can't see Felipe leaving us just yet, we'll have to see how he starts the season, there was word that Belly was hopefully getting back to fitness which would give us a boost.
I imagine we'll see Ballard playing in midfield, although he's been around for ages he's still only 26, not sure the situation regarding Darren Pond, again like Belly there was word he may be fit for the new season, a younger model of Savage 32/33 year old ex-league midfielder would be perfect, cant think of anybody off hand though
Would be great to retain Oggy,Lyonsy and Bloss. James Knight is great back up and could potentially break into the first team on a more regular basis.
We will certainly need to sign another striker to partner Steele, an experienced midfielder and an experienced goalkeeper, but we've got the base of a young, very talented team.

Serious? Ballard is only 26? I thought he was in his 30s?....) Shows what I know, ok then im slightly happier Also fantastic to hear about Pond, am definitely looking forward to seeing him in action again. (and I admit I did forget about him in my previous assessment and bell for that matter.)

I think the goalkeeping situation is the tough one at the moment. Knighty was superb, he was experienced and very consistant.
Joe although showed promise did make a few mistakes at times. He's a young lad who's still learning so you can't expect him to come in and be as strong as Knighty.
Where do you find an experienced keeper?

A couple of possible contenders?
Alan Foster? , He played for us over 10 years ago, but is probably, 35?, not exactly old for a goalkeeper, experience at this level, played for Abingdon United and Cirencester last season
Jon Beames, think he was at North Leigh last year, played for Abingdon United as well.
I can't really think of anybody else 'local'

Jack King
Now this would be a signing! , would be a very very slim chance that it'll happen though as they'll be a few semi-pro Conf South teams in for him, but with Stuart Peace/Didcot connection...you never know, think he still lives in Oxford too
he tweeted: "enjoyed my time at Farnborough fc but im unable to go full time so thanks to the supporters but i'll be moving on next season"

Padz,
I'd seen that in the paper and I thought to myself "Fair play son!" But then I realised it was a different Marv.
