I was right by the linesman. the offence was blatant, Keith (who didn't put a foot wrong throughout) was clearly impeded, but it takes nerve in that situation to make the decision. I thought the ref handled the match well, though we got two bookings despite playing a clean game.
All in all, it was pretty much as I expected--a tight game with City unable to break down a solid home defence despite having superior possession and creating far more chances. Felipe came close with that run into the box in the first half--I thought he was just going to lift it over Rafis who went down early, but credit to the keeper for saving with his legs. We shaved the bar late in the first and then had control of much of the second half but wasted it by putting too many high balls into their box, which their tall defence were eating up all afternoon. But then, when we did get a low one across the area, it must have bobbled just before Steely connected as it ballooned up into the keeper's arms.
The second game will give us a chance to make amends for missed opportunities today, but Redbridge showed they can defend in depth and break quickly down the flanks, which is why they have got this far and beaten good teams. They are in a false position in the league as they are as good as many teams in our division and had it not been for a good ref and lino, we'd be out by now...

Good day yesterday. Mates enjoyed it and we should all make the replay. Overheard a city fan say something about us being Oxford United fans Let's hope plenty of United fans turn up for the replay, get the gate receipts up.

Yes, we don't want to be the next holders of the "lowest Rd 1 gate" record. Home ground plus home crowd should help on the 22nd. Not to be missed!

Yes, Hooped Hut will be open as normal - it usually shuts about 15 minutes after the game. With regard to replicas, think we are currently sold out of L but may have an XL in stock. See you all this evening - c'mon the City!!

Little fight from City tonight. Don't know why Barcelos was taken off at H/T/ Probem I think, is that in previous rounds (Eastleigh and Weston) City were the smaller/lower league team and thus showed the tenacity to fight. Tonight, boot was on other foot...dissapointing end to Cup exploits! Concentrate on winning the League now!

First off we have had some damn good laughs along the way and its certainly been fun, many thanks to Sharon for getting the coaches sorted out and to everyone else who appeared for one or more of the away days which will certainly be in my memory for awhile to come....That night at the start of the dream in the driving rain at Didcot seems along time ago!! Oviously due to the above and ultimatily and in all reality if the dream wasn't going to end Yesterday it would have done, probably in some form of humiliation, at Crawley next round, there was some seriously strange decisions going on from the management last night. 1. Why play Steele & bash together when they haven't really played a competitive match together in the City colours...especially in such an important game. 2. I guess he may have been injured from Saturday so that answers it, but why did Declan start on the bench? 3. Why was Barcelos Subbed so soon in the second half, even though his form has dipped in recent games he is also a player with some natural ability who could work some magic and ultimately unlock a team like Redbridge, even when playing bad. 4. Speaking of subs, why did we use 2 of our 3 subs so soon in the second half when it was always a possibility the game could go to Extra time/Pens. 5. Why Bring on a Sub, who has very little experience at this level in such an important game at such a crucial time when there may have been better options on the bench? Again not really criticisms (I can't help myself!) but just some items which made me scratch my head abit. Also our support was S**t.....1175?....it was a library at times!! next time we need to pre arrange song/chant cohesion....it also shows on an average league weekend our place won't be anything more than a library On Aside note..I recon those supporters from Redbridge were not actually from Redbridge..they were Mclean coach drivers celebrating the fact they have a year until they have to put up with us 'animals' again

City should have seen off Redbridge in the first tie, given the chances they created, but that may have made them a little complacent going into this one. Mike Ford was right to say Redbridge looked a bit hungrier, and they deserved to win even if the goal which unlocked us was a shade fortunate. What was the penalty for? I couldn't see it clearly. Anyway, we should have come out going for glory in the second half but we surrendered the ball too easily, and the initiative. We were tactically naive, just pumping high balls into their box where our two strikers were dwarfed by their big defenders. I said after the first tie that was a waste of time. It's only any use at set pieces when Ballard, Learoyd and Bloss could get on the end of it; in open play City are more dangerous keeping the ball to feet and running at people, especially down the flanks. Though to be fair to Redbridge, they made that difficult because they worked very hard at shutting us down quickly. Their wide men were very good, and showed City what they should have been doing at the other end. The home game was always going to be more difficult to win than the away because City don't play their best under the psychological pressure of home expectations, especially if there is a big crowd, mostly not regular supporters, just silently watching and waiting for ignition. Away, the real fans go and make a noise, and there's more pressure on their opponents, as Eastleigh and Weston found. A home game against a lower team is usually a banana skin for us, as the Mangotsfield game showed. So I think it was psychology, venue, solid, determined opponents and tactics which hindered us, rather than team choices, though I agree with Hedges that it seemed unusual opting for the veteran strike force and playing Barcelos out wide. He seemed to be limping a bit which is why I guess he was subbed early, but Benjamin is not a left-sided player and the front seemed a bit unbalanced. Was Fisher not available? He would have given us fresh options, and would have had something to prove. Maybe 4-4-2 would have been a better way to get men attacking down the wings--we scared them once or twice when we did, but most of the time they couldn't believe how easy we made it for them to defend against. And in the end our legs were gone, whereas they had the advantage of coming from behind and were on a high.
Still, it's been a good run overall, better than we could have expected when we struggled against Diddy at home, or when we were a goal down at Thame. Now we have to put this behind us and get over it. The next league games are crucial, especially with Totton, Chesham and Cambridge coming up before the end of the year--games which will test us to the limit and show whether we are in a false position in the league.
Good luck to Redbridge in the next round--they are going to need it, but they've done fantastically well!

Met a few West Ham fans who had nothing better to do! Well now thats over its on with the league. I remember feeling it was the end of the world after getting knocked out in the second qualifying round in the late seventies. But its not the real bread and butter is the league, and city have had a few harsh decisions 0-0 draw with Hitchen not the best, but the side is strong at full strength, and are a match for anyside in this league and will soon be back to wining ways!
