With City not playing yesterday i went to my first ever Nomads game and was very impressed with the way they played. Although they struggled in the first half against limited, but well organised and disciplined opposition and went in at half time one down and down to 10 men, the free-flowing football arrived in the second half and the 10 men should have won by more than 4-1
Given City were not playing it was surprising the attendance was so low. They way the Nomads are playing I think they deserve more support !
The match also featured Alex Fisher in the starting line-up. Given how good a player he looked 3 years ago, I was disappointed with the level of his performance. Maybe he needs some game time, but on the evidence of yesterday he would struggle to keep a place in the Nomads team, let alone replace Basham, Barcelos or Steele in the City line-up ! Let's hope it is just a case of needing some practice rather than his game going backwards, for if he can get back to his past level then I would really fancy City to win the league.
Briefly chatting to the Shrivenham bench, they can't understand why Pablo Haysham hasn't had a chance with the first team as they thought he has been the standout player in the two games against them.

It had crossed my mind to also make this game my first Nomads game. Unfortunately on Thursday,Friday and Saturday Ive been nursing a nasty cold and having spent alot of time organizing a day out paintballing which happened today I thought it best to have a 'knees up' and stay in bed.
Ive heard from a large number of people that the nomads are playing some particularly striking attacking football at the moment though.
Intresting about Fisher and Pablo, in Fishers case I too hope its just a blip in form and lack of game time. As for Pablo I don't think its that surprising he hasn't made the first team 'yet'...apart from a couple of Sub Appearances (Didcot in the cup along with Connor is the once I remember) we have currently the strongest team Ive yet seen in the few seasons ive watched City. Im sure however his chance will come. maybe sooner than we think as Pond is out for the next few game and several other players on the edge of suspension (one more yellow), so a shake up of the mid field is inevitable....
Personally would love to see the Nomads promoted. they would then become what id consider a true 'reserve team' (which rightly or wrongly is how I see them)...the players playing against teams of very similar quality to the 1st team, increased pace of football and of course Fordy and Justin both have the chance then to pick from 2 pools of players, that can play at very similar levels.....a privilege barely any other team in any of the leagues around us currently have.

Me and dad also went down to watch the Nomads, they play some very entertaining football and have some promising young talents. 2nd half with 10 men the team turned it around with a real attacking style and in the end 4-1 was unfair. Would be great if the Nomads could get promoted, like hedges said would be very good for the club and too have two teams with similar ability.

The Two Justins have had Nomads playing some excellent football all season, and it's a great shame that the attendances hover around the 40 mark - they deserve much better - though their home games often clash with City's away games, so that would obviously have an effect. Still, Nomads v Witney this Wednesday would be a good chance to seem them in action. As for promotion, there is an FA ruling that reserve sides (or sides deemed to be reserve sides by the powers that be) must be two steps or more below the 1st XI. So all the more reason for City to win promotion to Conference N/S

They're certainly worth watching, Saturday was a game of two halves, Kynan sent off, Shirvvy take the lead and the half ends with Nomads trailing 1-0 and not really looking in the game
2nd half a totally different story, Josias Carbon threads a great shot into the bottom corner(and on recent displays could be knocking on Fordy's door), Conor smashed home a great goal for 2-1 and then turned provider for Pablo to slot home before Dobson's left foot smashed home the penalty.
Fish had an hour, and for a player who has only played once or twice in the past year he didn't look too bad, few signs of 'ring rust' but once he's had a few games under his belt will be a massive asset to the first team.

Ive actually heard this rule before but forgot about it before I posted that final comment. A Silly one at that. In principle I agree with it, as lets be honest we don't want to see Man U & Man U reserve in the prem league, but thats never going to happen since many clubs participate in a specifically developed reserve league which covers the full spectrum for professional clubs. At non-league level it should not apply at all, Part time non-contract players can flip between sides as they please, one week playing for there own team, then the next play in a team 'as a favor for a friend'....on this basis surily the Nomads are nothing more than an independant team which happens to groundshare with the Oxford City 1st Team..... Presumably someone would kick up a fuss if it came to the crunch...would be a shame to lose all that talent coming through the Nomads just because they have reached the peak of where the team can go and the players going to other local rivals like Didcot, to get a shot at playing at a higher level. also on that basis...if the 1st team (hopefully not this season ) was to get relegated, would that mean the Nomads would also be relegated regardless of where they finish in there own division?.....seems like more backwards thinking at FA HQ to me...
