Despite missing several regulars and the two Justin's Oxford City turned in one of their most impressive performances of the season to beat Old Hooky 3 - 0 at Chipping Norton.
As always it was a lovely evening at Chippy and the pitch was superb, which really suited the boys.
City came flying out of the traps and should of been two nil up within the first fifteen minutes as Paul Spittle missed two golden opportunities to give City the lead. No one could quite work out he missed the second chance when volleying over from a yard out with the goal at his mercy. Our suspicions were confirmed that he gone for shooting practice with Holdy when he missed a third chance when through on goal, and we were starting to wonder whether it would be one of those nights!!
City were dominating midfield with the impressive Andy Martin and man of the match Lee Sharkey, who was in a class of his own (again), causing the home side all sorts of problems!! City finally got their rewards when Stewy Parsons lobbed one over the keeper when put through by Sharks to put us one nil up. The highlight of the game followed just before half time when Sharks hit the bar from 35 yards... The keeps cry of safe as the ball cannoned off the bar on to the back of his head was a moment to savour!!
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first half, with City dominating possession without that bit of quality in the final third... This was to change when the gaffa was forced to bring himself on (and out of retirement) and with his first touch slotted in Holdy who cooly squared for 'Lionel' Sharkey to put us two nil up. This has give the gaffa a real dillema for the semi final next week as to whether or not he should get the boots back out!!
City added a third just before the end from Andy Martin after great work from Stewy P as the game finished 3 - 0. The gaffa would like to say a big thanks to all the boys whose work rate and effort was different class and we look forward to the semi final next week.
Creedy as for the Kings Arm... Very dissapointed and hope you do a lot better for the 23rd December!!!
M of the M; Lee Sharkey. Attendance 3. Cottage Pie 7/10
