Good win today which could have been larger. The Southern League site is wrong in crediting our first goal to Bash (though the announcer, and Radio Oxford's report did the same)--it was clearly an own goal as Chris Byrne reported. I was surprised that neither Chris nor the radio report mentioned the fact that City hit the Evesham woodwork twice in the second half--though Hedley Feast did refer to Bash striking the bar, Chris Wilmot also hit the post in a goalmouth scramble.
It was a game of two halves--City uninspiring in a lacklustre first half where they seemed affected by the unusual heat, but Mike Ford fired them up at the interval and they took the game much more to the visitors afterwards, attacking well down the flanks. I thought Ballard played a strong game, dominating the midfield as he will have to now that Liam is out for the rest of the season following his ankle operation. Felipe had a good second half and Wilmot and Blossom were very solid at the back throughout.
It was good to win at home to weaker opposition as we have struggled to do that this season (Redditch, Didcot, Mangotsfield, Redbridge, Cirencester, Hemel...) There are no easier looking fixtures left now. Bedford are on a roll and have a terrific away record for a mid-table team, better than ours.
Only real disappointment today was the sparse crowd. I know United took a lot down the road to Cheltenham and Evesham don't have large support, but it was lovely afternoon and City are doing well--what do they have to do to get 200 supporters of their own at a Saturday fixture?
