A well deserved victory last night against a Bedford side who never gave up, the trio of Learoyd,Bloss and Wilmott were up to the challenge of whatever Bedford could throw at us and were winning every tackle and everything in the air, thought Marvin did well in the 'liam' role and Bash again ran himself into the ground, the goal although an empty net was well taken when alot of people would probably have smashed the shot he picked his spot and finished it well, should have had a second when the ball rolled temptingly accross the 6 yard box.
2 home games this week and 6 points, can't complain at that, onwards to Chippenham on Saturday, let's set our sights on getting above Totton, would be a big ask for anyone to overhaul Brackley's lead at the top now, but a 2nd placed finished could be achieved if we continue to display the battling spirit we did last night

Yes, we did battle well, especially the defence and Andy Ballard once again. When one was beaten, there was always another there to help out. Bedford had a lot of possession in the second half but they could not make it tell--Mooney hardly had a shot to save all night. Chris did a brilliant block on the one occasion when a visiting striker was about to pull the trigger.
I agree that Marvin had a good game too--I hope he recovers from that knock he took.
In fact, although the ball was mainly in the City half, we looked as if we could score nearly every time we went forward in the second half. Kynan had a good low shot well saved at the post; Felipe got past their keeper and squared it across the box but just too far ahead of Bash; Declan put one half chance over the bar, and then saw his deflected shot from a narrow angle hit the post near the end. But given our tendency to concede in added time, mssing these chances gave us a nervous finale!
City have done really well to recover from their end of year stutters and are now well placed to qualify for the play offs, but every match will be competitive. We have to play promotion chasers at home and relegation battlers away. We are also without Liam for the rest of this campaign, and Clarkey for the time being, and I believe there are a few more close to a suspension for yellow cards. The squad is not large, and our matches are coming thick and fast--8 in the next month, compared to 6 for most of the play-off pack. Much may depend on keeping the key men (experienced ones for whom we don't have much cover) fit--players like Ballard and Pond in midfield and Basham up front. The Cambridge game is likely to be the single most crucial one, being a six-pointer-- and Cambridge have a relatively easier run-in than the rest of the top six or seven.
