Could City reproduce the form they showed before the extended winter break?
1st Half; 2-2-2; Freya Mowbray; Rhiannon Weller, Megan Thorpe(C); Lauren Page, Lily Hernandez; Blanche Mayo, Alice Ford. Subs: Chloe Holden, Isabella Richards, Iona Smith, Dara Austin.
After such a long break over Christmas and the bad weather it was really good for the girls to get back in action and it also helped playing on a very good playing surface. The City girls started really strongly and having most of the ball in the opening minutes and when the ball fell to Lauren Page on 4 minutes she smashed her effort in to give City a deserved lead. For the rest of the half the Hoops played some really good football with great passing and movement from all the girls. Summertown were very big and strong at the back and their keeper made some very good saves and kept them in the game. When Summertown did break they could not get past the City defence and Freya "THE KITTEN" Mowbray had very little to do. The Hoops went in at half time happy to be leading but a little frustrated not to be ahead by more.
HT 0-1
2nd Half; 2-2-2; Freya Mowbray; Isabella Richards, Megan Thorpe(C); Iona Smith, Chloe Holden; Lauren Page, Alice Ford. Subs: Dara Austin, Blanche Mayo, Zoe Washington, Lily Hernandez, Rhiannon Weller.
Ash and Wayne made three changes at half time Izzy, Chloe and Iona came on for Blanche, Lily and Rhiannon and it took a few minutes for the changes to work with Summertown having more of the ball in the opening period of the second half. When the girls did settle the football again began to flow and for the rest of the half City peppered the Summertown goal and made chance after chance. In particular the now 10 year old top goal scorer Alice "NODDY" Ford being frustrated by the Summertown goalkeeper and defence. Although there were no clear chances the management team were worried that Summertown could nick a late point but when a chance fell to "NODDY" in the last minute she coolly finished to give the Hoops a well deserved 3 points.
FT 0-2
After the league game Summertown had agreed to a friendly to give some of the girls much needed pitch time. The girls who played all played very well and managed to win 5-0 with good performances at the back from "Team 'ara" consisting of Tara (Mulcahy-Murray) and Dara (Austin) and also some confident touches in the middle of the park from Zoe Washington. Well done also to Megan, Alice and Lily for having a go in goal and keeping a clean sheet between you!! The goal scorers were Alice with a hat trick, Megan with 2 and Lily.
This was another good day for the City girls who continue to go from strength to strength and I'm sure the pleasing thing for Ash and Wayne is the quality of the football now being played and the great spirit in which the girls play.
