Hi all im thinking of staying over on our visit in December and was wondering how far your ground is away from the city? Are there any hotels near to your ground? (possibly travelodge or a good pub to stay in?) And what's the real ale situation like near to your ground? Thanks.

Hi Drolyesden fan The ground is about 2 miles from the city centre with a good bus service less than 10 mins walk away and a 15-20 minute ride. There are a couple of pubs with real ale within 20 mins walk but I would recommend going into town. Many excellent pubs in the GBG e.g. Bear, Turf, Far from The Madding Crowd, Kings Arms, White Horse, Grapes etc and many more ... Not much in way of hotels/guest houses under 60 quid anywhere. Ther are a few reasonably priced guest houses in Headington about 25 mins walk from ground Good luck

Droylsden, Huxman has pretty much hit the nail on the head! Real ales are aplenty in Oxford..Lamb & Flag is my personal favourite..excellent range of (mostly West Country) ales and ciders..and despite being owned by St. Johns College, is cheaper than most in the city. Other pubs mentioned by Huxman and more also well worth it - quality, if not price of ales! ;D Accommodation in Oxford, is quite frankly - pathetic! Very few hotels, mostly ridiculously over-priced guesthouses. One of the best values is Rewley House (Google!) which is decent en-suite accmdtn owned by Oxford Uni. Brillant location - behind Ashmolean museum..over the road from Lamb & Flag and Eagle & Child pubs...as well as Jericho, the most fashionable and quirky area of Oxford! They are about £70 per night...don't come much cheaper unfortunately!

Hi Droylsden fan, In the current rail timetable (which changes mid October, I think), there is a direct train leaving Manchester Piccadilly at 9.27 which gets into Oxford at 12.14. No changes. Return departs Oxford 18.07 and (change at Brum) arrives at Piccadilly at 20.59. I am not sure of the connections to and from Fairfield, if that is your local station. If you book on Trainline.com nearer the time you'll get this for about £20 each way. Hope that a goodly number of you can make the trip!

The Travelodge breakfasts are not as good as those across in the main Services! Hope you enjoy the trip.

Yeah, Travelodge is quite a trek into the city centre..though buses along Banbury/Woodstock Rd's are pretty frequent!

I seem to remember it was a bit out but price wise you can't grumble. I remember going to a nice Sam Smiths pub in Oxford can't remember the name thou. I also can't remember if you were Wetherspoons free? Not knocking them but i prefer a good old traditional pub.

There's 2 Wetherspoons. The 4 Candles and The Swan and Castle.
