So Colchester away, Thoughts?
Happy with it, obviously it could've been a bigger club, but they have a nice new stadium, and potential for a shock.
We'll be looking into coaches for away travel so obviously register your interest as the more we can take the better

Be like Cheltenham in the trophy. Underdogs let's go there and Do our best on the pitch and get behind the the lads. Love to bring them back to the Lane. Be good to get on a coach instead of train.

Happy to know about any arrangements for travel...though not interested if arriving at the ground 10 mins before k.o!
Buses from outside Fat Cat bar in the town centre run to the ground, which is out of town! Despite some dodgy military geezers, Colchester is actually a pretty decent town!

It'll do, I guess. I don't want to look at any game in terms of winnability but I won't be ruling out a place in the 2nd round.

It would be really nice to beat a League club. The lads should be up for this, and in the Cup you never know... Anyone got a banana skin to spare?

City to meet a 'new' team in the FA Cup, which is always interesting. Colchester United will be the 136th different club that OCFC have played in the competition. Guess who we've played most often.........

Just working that out; seems to me it is one of three or four well known clubs!

I'll go for Pegasus, Banbury Utd or Wycombe Wanderers?

Witney Or Abingdon Town possibly?

Post by ChrisB on Oct 17, 2017 17:53:00 GMT
Good guesses.
We've played Banbury Spencer/United in 12 matches (inc. replays) in the FA Cup. Closely followed by Witney (11) and Maidenhead (10).
For the other guesses: City have faced Wycombe in 9 games, and Abingdon Town in only 4 (Ab. Utd in 5 games).
Pegasus (perhaps surprisingly?) never entered the FA Cup. I think, though am definitely not certain, that it was down to the dates of the early rounds of the FA Cup being outside the University Year. This was not a problem in the Amateur Cup as Pegasus were exempt until Round One, which was usually at the start of January, giving them plenty of time to get the side together and play a few practice matches.

Please put me down for a seat on the coach if we are having one!

Another, possibly not too tricky, FA Cup puzzler.
Which is the only club in the top division of the Football League (at the time of the tie) that OCFC have played in an FA Cup tie?

Burton Albion? If we are talking about the Championship. We have played Bournemouth now plying trade in the Premier League aswell.

Colchester supporter here in friendship.Interesting tie as we seem to have drawn Clubs from your league regularly over the last few years with some hefty wins but also a defeat at Chelmsford, which was made worse for me by living there at the time.
For those coming by coach and want a drink, there is nothing close to the stadium by way of a pub though they do serve fizz and wine in the concourses. Those coming by train, the Bricklayers or Victoria are decent ale houses and not too far from the station and shuttle buses to the stadium. There is no supporters bar.
Playing wise we have improved a bit recently but lack goals not helped by our two better scorers being on long term injury and then bringing in some loan players who are not football league standard.Looking at your results since August, you seem to also be struggling a bit so neither team will claim to be on form.
Sadly there is presently only plans to open up one stand for Colchester supporters. I suspect this will help you on the pitch as this will considerably affect the crowd numbers and volume of home support.
Anyway, I hope you bring a good following and enjoy your day....Well not too much.

OK....the next FA Cup puzzle - a bit harder(?).
Bury were in the top tier of English football when they played the City, but which two clubs were in the second tier of English football at the time when OCFC played them in the FA Cup.

Will there still be a bus running to the stadium from outside Fat Cat bar in town do you know?
